which speakers/ amp
was thinking about getting this tom tom / radio Eclipse AVN2210p CD receiver at Crutchfield.com
and was wondering about upgrading the speakers and adding a sub. I know if i add a sub i will need an amp, and possibly crossover? i was wondering if upgrading the stock speakers would be worthwhile with this hu and no amp upgrade, and if so, what some good, but not extremely expensive, replacement speakers would be (the less fabrication and more bolt on the better)

well the hu is about 400, so i figure i could give anywhere from 200-500+ for stock replacements, more to add an amp and sub
i would ideally want to first replace stock speakers, then add an amp and sub later, but if i need an amp to run aftermarket speakers then i may wait and do it all at once.
as i said i dont know much about audio, so $500 is a ball park figure. i want something good, but also want a compromise between price and quality (i dont listen THAT loud, so anything that sounds great at regular volumes will do)
thanks alot!!

There a lot of decent brands. Some have better sound overall than others, but you need to experience it for yourself. I have a strong preference for JL Audio. Just by going to their dealer finder and entering your zip code, you can come up with a bunch of stores that will have a variety. Hopefully you will find some that have that variety on a sound board to listen to. Most speakers are designed coming at you from a sound board. Better speakers (and there are few of them) are designed from an off-axis listening position, just like it would be in your car's door. This would be between 30-45 degrees off axis. The JL lineup is designed that way. Your price range is very doable. Spend more money on the front ones and when you go to power them, consider sending them more power than the rear speakers. You can actually do a 4 channel amp. The fronts speakers and a single sub can be powered this way. Your headunit power can take care of the rear speakers. In my car I'm not even using rear speakers. Good luck.

ok, just to be sure i understand the setup.
head unit sending audio signal to a 4 channel amp, and sending power to the rear speakers only (may leave them stock for now then)
amp powering front two speakers and a sub(would want to bridge the last 2 channels then)
do I need a crossover?? also, what are the fit's stock speaker sizes, as I would like to just bolt the upgrades in. also, do i need the amp for the front speakers, or is that just recommended as it will be louder? I plan to upgrade to a full system eventually, but would like to space it out as much as possible.
thanks for all the info, I really am a newb when it comes to aftermarket car audio

You can add the amp later. Yes, rear channels of the amp are bridged to the sub. I stripped my car out immediately so the exact speaker size I don't recall as I did everything custom including the door panels. Check around on the forum as there is a little mounting depth issue. The amp you choose should have a nice variable crossover built in. That will tell the sub to stop at say, 85Hz and the front speaker to not play below that, or maybe a little higher like 100Hz. More power from the amp will make your speaker choices sound better in the end. More dynamic for sure if you haven't experienced that. Again, going to a shop, they will be able to help you first hand. Would you test drive a car over the internet?
