New DVD/Navi headunit installed

Went with the JVC KW-NX7000. So far really liking it. Haven't played much with the navigation, but the little I did it seems spot on so far. It looks like it sits out a bit, but thats because it has a removable face. If I set it back too far the trim interferes with it, and with no trim it looks awful!

Got it for 850 shipped on ebay. Was packed real well and arrived fast. Since the seller is not an authorized reseller though, I will probably go for the squaretrade 3 year warranty for like 90 bux or so. Still havent decided totally on that.

What else did you have to buy to install? Got any pics of the install? Easy or difficult install?

Updated first post with more pics. Install is no more difficult than installing a single DIN radio. All you need is the mounting kit, Scosche IMO is better than the Metra kit, wiring harness so you dont have to cut up the stock plug (I got them both on ebay for like 50 bux or something like that), and some time. I've had the dash off so many times already that its pretty simple. I could have a radio swapped put in probably 15 minutes not including attaching the wiring. Didnt take any pics of the install though sorry. The Crutchfield master sheet really helps for the first time you install one though.

I would have gone with the Alpine 505 if it had a removeable face. That was one of the big selling points to me. This also comes with navigation for a lot less that it would cost to get the Blackbird with the Alpine. I had good luck with 2 other JVC head units in the past few years as well, so I cant see why this wouldnt be any different. Setting up the DVD to play whenever you want is also super simple, just need to ground the parking brake wire, and thats all. THis thing also have every kind of input, SC card, USB, rear camera, etc.

nice unit...I am still deciding on a JVC or Kenwood Excelon DNX8120. Glad that you got it at a good price. Is there an amp that you can stow under the seat

Not much room under the seats, at least the front ones. I wouldnt feel safe putting one under the fronts. Under the rears is a lot of room, but then you lose the magic seat ability I would bet.

i was browsing on crutchfield and it says that if the OEM stereo is taken off then the AUX plug won't be usable anymore, is it true?

sorry for being off topic, the navi looks great, makes me want to get one now, how's the navi interface working for you? accurate so far?

yes you do lose the aux input if you put an aftermarket deck in. Though most new decks, unless they are really low end, have inputs on them anymore. This one that I have has a USB input, though I dont really use it.

Nav so far seems pretty good. I dont go all too far from home though so I dont really NEED to use it, but its cool to have anyway.

Nice unit.
It's good to have a detachable face but damn the whole face.
That would be a pain to lug around. Can't put it in any pant pocket.

True, but I still like that added security of being able to remove it. Its the main reason I went with the JVC. I knew the JVC unit would be real nice too, since I have had 2 of them in the last few years. (I tend to swap head units quite often for some reason lol!)

In looking at your GPS picture, if someone says they live "way out in Hicksville", they might be telling the truth.

How is it working for you? Anything you especially like or don't like?

I am curious about the GPS. How fast does it update when it loses signal or you go off route? I used to have a Garmin that took minutes to sort itself out if it lost signal.

Also, does it have the annoying "feature" that has a voice which reminds the driver he/she is over speed limit? I know one of the big brands had this and I'm trying to avoid it!

TIA
