Confirmation for map light wiring, please
Sorry - initially posted this on interior mods forum...then noticed there was one specific to lighting (please forgive - I'm a newbie to the forums!)
I am adding Sport model map lights to two base Fits - a 2012 and a 2013.
The DIY thread on doing this doesn't seem to load pics for me.
I want to wire so:
- both come on with dome light when a door is opened
- each can be turned on singly by pressing
I'm good on all parts of this mod EXCEPT:
1) tapping for door-switched power and always-on power from dome wiring
which color wire is which? I see references to pink and blue
2) wiring connections on the new map light units
where do you connect always-on power?
where do you connect door-switched power?

Just installed mine in a 2013 base last week.
Run a pair of wires between the map light and the dome light. The pink wire on the dome light is constant +12 volts, the blue wire is the door-activated ground.
When looking at the back of the map light base, there are 3 pins on the socket. The inner-most pin is for the +12 volts (pink wire) and the outer-most pin is for the door-activated ground (blue wire). The middle pin is to ground the base itself, but this is unnecessary since one of the mounting bolts provides the ground directly to the chassis.
I tapped the dome light wires using two each of these:
951K (BULK) 3M Electronic Specialty | Mouser
71M-250-32-NL 3M Electronic Specialty | Mouser
Makes it very easy to tap, and you can disconnect the map lights easily if need be.
As far as the connector for the map light base, you can use 04321-SM4-409 CONNECTOR (3P 090 F) and 04320-SP0-A00 (SUB-CORD (0.5) if you want to do it right. Note that the connector is a very tight fit when you plug it in, and requires a very slight modification of shaving a bit of the plastic off one side. It's obvious where it needs to be shaved down, and can be done easily with an X-Acto knife.
