Complete NOOB here! Interior led......

I just installed leds under my driver and passenger side dash. I thought a nice blue would be nice... I have read on here that it is possible to splice off the cigarette lighter. So, with no prior led, electrical, or car mod experience, I decided to try and run wires from lighter to a switch to leds. When I start the car, the lights come on, but when I flip the switch, I blow the fuse. Any suggestions or thoughts????

Sorry for my inexperience, but I am a quick learner. thanks!

What switch? Did you add this switch? If so you have wired it wrong. It should only be connected to one of the wires you added. Ie the wire goes into then out of switch. Should not matter which one you use.

Usually we hook them up to the dome light so they come on and off with it. In the fuse box the plug with just the pink and blue wires are the ones you want to connect to.

Yes, I added the switch. I wanted to be able to control when the lights are on or off. And a line that was only on when the car is on.

As far as the dome light approach is concerned, Do I have to remove the fuse panel from bracket? I have no experience in this, so I apologized for my lack of knowledge.

Well then try re-wiring your switch using only the one wire.

No you do not have to remove the fuse panel. Just use a couple of connectors to splice into the wires.

Well, I went out and found the plug for the dome light. I have a 2007 Fit, so my plug is different. Do I add more pins to the plug or would I just split off the existing wires. Does gauge matter? I have pretty thick wire...

Would you happen to have a link for a how-to on wiring connectors?

Here is a link someone did for adding sill lights to dome circuit. Do the same thing. The blue connectors you can get from any auto parts place. When you see them it is obvious how they go together.

You do not need very heavy gauge. He suggested 14-16.

Any future posts make sure to indicate you are driving a GD not a GE. Just helps. Might also want to add your State and Country in your ID as we don't know where Rockford is.

Alright. So I decided to try and see what I did wrong. I found out my soldering skills are not very good. I had tried to use computer parts for connections. It worked before I had all hooked to the car. I guess that after moving everything around, a few came apart. So I just cut them all off and twisted wires. All is good now. Thank you Black3sr!

hey I been reading this post on and on
and I don't get what the OP try to archive here
If he installed the under dash blue LED kit.
I had this installed too.
Is he trying to add more LED to the center console area?
I am aware the ambient lights kit c/w a switch already
why can't he use the existing installation wiring from the ambient light? instead of making a new alternation of the cigarette lighter.
I meant to spice the wire from the amibient light and add extra LED...
