GE8 Headlight Pinout

Alright.. This may seem like a noob question. Just sayin'...

But.. How are the H4 headlight prongs layed out on a 2009-2010 Fit? I personally own an 02 Civic, but I'm trying to work on/get info for my sister's 2010 Fit Sport, which is in Oakland, CA, and I'm in Vegas.

I wanna attempt a retrofit on her headlights, using some bi-xenon morimoto mini's from theretrofitsource.com and my old H1 HID kit (since I have an H1 HID kit laying around after I ditched it for a TSX retro).

Thanks in advance.

edit: been searching around for a little and couldn't find anything regarding the GE8 and headlight wiring.. Name: icon_shrug.gif

Um... same as any other H4?

There are three prongs, 1 is a common wire that goes to both filaments. The other two provide power to either low or high.

I don't remember the order, I keep thinking that the one in the middle is for high, but, it's been a while since I replaced the socket in the Nissan Pathfinder (after the OE socket melted).

edit: let me clarify... if you've worked on one H4 bulb, which i assume you have, since the 02 Civic uses H4 bulbs, you should know what wire is what. The only thing another user mentioned was how it was ground switched... my best guess as to what they meant, the power flows in the opposite direction, which shouldn't be a problem for the relay, unless it has one-way diodes.

For clarification and repetition's sake, prong on the left is the high ground, close prong (also the horizontal prong) is the low ground, and the barely visible is the shared +12VDC.

I think older model civics use a shared ground and switch the hi/lo +12VDC, hence the nature of this thread.

Well, there was a forum post that stated the Fit uses switched ground, so it should be the same as the picture you put.

Awesome. If that wiring schematic was made with any common sense in mind, it should be wired up the same way mine is, as you mentioned. Thanks for the help!

you could just get a harness from theretrofitsource

This, and of course the Fit and your Civic are wired the same... Its not the auto manufacturer that decides how to wire up an H4 bulb, there is only 1 way to do it.

I think technically, there'd be two ways.

1st way: power comes in through each wire for high and low, and the common wire is a ground.

2nd way: power comes in through the common wire and each wire for the high and low are grounds.

Like I said, this matter if whatever you're plugging in has a one-way diode (it only allows power through one direction). The standard H4 bulb isn't a diode, so it wouldn't matter. As long as it completes a circuit, it'll light up.

Just making sure so I can get everything sorted out/laid out before I do anything on her car.

I have a set of H4 conversion harnesses from an old set of TYC projectors, and I found out by trial and error that the color coding on the TYC harness didn't follow standard wire colors (black wires connected to my +12VDC, red wire to my hi ground, blue to my low ground). This led me to believe that some manufacturers may switch from high to low in different manners (switching the ground or the +12VDC).

For anyone reading this post now, almost 15 years later lmao. Im almost certain that that picture is not accurate for our honda fits. AS far as i can tell the fits have positive switched headlights. So the Constant wire would be negative or ground and the switched pins are positive 12v. Will update/edit if this is not accurate.
