Where/how did you get at wiring of existing hatch light to add the LEDS? Did you take out existing holder?

i should of posted it in the DIY section too.

 

I popped the stock light out on the driver's side of the hatch and spliced the wiring right there. I removed the stock bulb, but put the clear plastic back in place when I was done...since it is kind of on the underside of the ledge, it isn't all that noticeable if you aren't looking for it.

 

I've been wanting to do this for the longest time. Any chance of a DIY?

Mugen did something similar on the Fit F154SC concept: LED clusters on the bottom corners of the rear hatch window. They come on when the hatch is opened, and the light beam is aimed downward squarely at the rear hatch cargo area.

 

chubbykai took the idea and was nice enough to write up an excellent DIY when he did this a few weeks ago. See post #27 for his link

 

After posting I went with trusty flat screw driver and sure enuf the light popped out. I was looking at it trying to figure out how to add wires and keep orignal as well. I am going with blue LEDs so will put in blue to replace original as well.

The Spade connector was great idea if not using bulb. I am going to solder the wires to the brass part. Will take bulb out first of course.

Now I am waiting to see the DIY for the hatch LED

Just got my LEDS in. I put 2 blues ones in each corner. No holders but they were a nice press Fit. I have decided to butcher light holder and put two spade connectors in there when I get some. I did test the lights just touching the wires and they work -). The old fart is happy.

Can't find test light to check out the fuse box for the footwell hookups for the cathodes so off to buy one.

 

Cool! Take some pictures when you are done, I'd like to see how it looks with the blue LEDs!

They are bright enough I can see them shining on seat back.

I bought my LEDS at WalMart. Four in a pack for about $10. They each had about 2 1/2 - 3 feet of wire attached. No holders. I drilled holes so that they are press Fit. I bought all the wires together in the middle and soldered to a piece of speaker wire I had kicking around. I snaked it up to existing light fixture. I removed bulb and used spade connectors to attach wire.

Snaking wire tips. I used piece of coathanger with hook bent on the end. To get a new wire from exisiting light down to taillight hole I went up through tailight and fiddled til could see end at light hole. Just looped wire over and pulled it through. Remember to hold one end. Then from hole around tiedown I snaked up to tail light hole and hooked wires on and pull down through tiedown hole. Lift up center piece of trim that is in the middle enuf so that you can snake coathanger up to tiedown hole and hook wires on and pull through. Do same on other side. You should end up with all four pair od LED wires and the new wire going up to exisiting light. match them up and solder and tape or shrink wrap.


Today is Accord horn and replace white ties with black ones on my stone guard screen.

Next will be to find my test light. I have one I now as I used it to re-wire my old '61 Austin Healy Bugeye way back in the late 80s. Boy simple times as it only had two fuses. Then I can tackle foot well cathodes.
