My Fog Light Bulbs Almost Exploded!

so after installing mu 6000k HID's for the headlights, i decided to take out my luminics ultra white h11 fog light bulbs and change them back to stock bec the stock ones are brighter and this is what they looked like! im so glad that they didnt explode on me while i had them on, i dont know what it was from but my dads cousin is an acura mechanic and he said that it looks like they were overheating somehow, i had them in there for like 4 months and never looked at them so i never knew they looked like that. so when i did take em out, i was in for a shock!

exploding was the least of your worries... Those bulbs were getting hot and you were lucky they didnt melt the fog light housings

Did you touch them? The grease from your fingers can cause high heat bulbs to explode or often create alot of external heat to cause melting of things etc.......

Its hard to say really... best thing i can think of is that those blubs arent made for those light housings and need more space or you get what you had... over heating. I dont know what size bulb the fogs call for but i wouldnt go any bigger in size or wattage because you will have melting issues. I fix alot of things on Air Force aircraft and have been doing it for 16 years, one of the many things i deal with are all the interior and exterior lights of aircraft... point being that light assemblys are made with specific purpose and have a specific size and watt lamp that goes with them, change either of the two and you can have issues. Hope your new lights work out better for you.

nope didnt touch them or anything, i was extremely careful, they call out for a h11 bulb and thats what i got, the only thing i could think of is there is a metal shield that surrounds the bulb in the fog light housing and im wonderind if it was just too close to it or something? but i mean the stock bulbs are the same size and they never did that, i just bought some nokya ultra yellow h11 bulbs to replace these and i hope i dont have the same problem!

Hopefully your next set will last... i've even seen at times, though rare, a bad batch of bulbs from the manufacturer... they would blow out within one flight! Got old changing light bulbs until we ran out of them and ordered a new batch.

I say somebody touched those (might be at the retailer or even manufacturer).
Had the same condition on bulbs from previous car.
Store where I bought bulbs from will actually clean them before letting me leave the store.
