JL Audio Stealthbox

I fired off an email this morning to JL Audio asking them to build one for the Fit. If anyone has not heard of a Stealthbox, go here and you will be in love with the idea: JL Audio: Products

I had it in my Del Sol. I took the rear tiny-lockbox compartment out and replaced it with the 2 8" subs mounted inverted hidden in an enclosure beneath carpet (theft-prevention!). So here's the email (start at the bottom and read upwards) and I hope they look into this:

Hi I am proposing that JL Audio builds a Stealthbox for the Honda Fit. I have a group of people on a forum that are interested and want you to produce it. We like the spaciousness of our Fits, but we also love music, and we want you creative persons to find a perfect, almost-factory-looking spot in the Fit to mount a box that won’t take up too much room. I had one in my Del Sol and loved it. Definitely one of the best subwoofer ideas ever. If I sent this letter to the wrong person, could you forward it to someone who might look into this idea? I think it would be good for you guys to look into these cars, the microvans of today (Scions and Yaris and Fit etc) as most owners are young and still have their hearing capabilities intact. Thanks for reading and at least thinking about the idea.

(you should become a vendor and organize group-buys for a discounted price. It would boost your rep further!)

Update: I got a reply from the marketing group! GOOD NEWS FOR PEOPLE LIKE ME THAT WOULD TOTALLY 100% BUY A STEALTHBOX FOR THE FIT:

Dear Adam,

Thank you very much for sending us your input on a Stealthbox for the Honda Fit. While we have not yet begun work on this model, it is on our development list and we hope to work on it before the end of 2008.

We sincerely appreciate your interest in JL Audio products, and your patience as we develop this new product.

Best regards,

What has happened in the past with Honda's, is that the average owner expects two 12's in a box for about $299-450. A stealthbox typically holds a single 10 inch sub, and cost about $650. They haven't sold enough of them. With the latest Civic version, perhaps that has changed. A $16,000 (Fit) car owner just isn't the type of guy to buy enough of these to make it worth their efforts. I don't want to pop your balloon but their research as they get to it, will determine that later this year. They would be looking to sell 100, 200 or more a year. I could see selling about 50 of them or so to start with. Keep in mind weight in these cars really drags them down quick.

The reason I want one is that it's not obnoxiously loud. I just want to take the bass-reproduction out of the components I'll be buying and leave that to the sub, along with saving space. Most people here with subs completely destroyed the idea of room in the hatch. Screw that. I don't need ear-bleeding bass. Just a little kick is all. My bubble has not been burst.

This 8 inch enclosure will suit your taste and needs for now. It's a highly efficient design (for an 8 inch) that's ported. And it's from JL Audio. Not counting the grille that isn't pictured, it's about 5 inches thick.

CP108LG-W3v3 - around $290

I like how the JL Stealth boxes look and sound. I have also used them in the past and well worth the extra money. I would be happy with a single 10" sub. Hope they really pull this off. If not I guess I will have to just buy a JL sub and custom make a stealth box for more

This is what you would call a vehicle specific enclosure. HA!

Nice setup, but where do I put the suit case?
I like the blue fabric inserts. They look sharp against the silver paint.

DDDDDDUUUUUUUUDDDDDDEEEEEEE, that's what the magic seat is for. The suit case goes on the rear floor. Priceless!

Here's a link to the info page for the 07-08 Fit/Jazz JL Audio Stealthbox:

JL Audio: Products

Pricing for similar JL Audio Stealthbox models lead me to believe pricing would be in access of $750.00!
