Introduction... New GE8 owner
Figured I'd do a little intro thread since I'm new here.
I bought a 2009 Milano Red Fit Sport MT last weekend. It has 14,500 miles on it and is basically a brand new car for $16667 retail out the door. Previous owner traded it in for a new Prius due to a lot of highway driving and the desire to get 50mpg. So far, I really love the car, aside from the horrible seats.
I bought it for an affordable and practical daily driver to replace my increasingly impractical 1999 BMW M3. I wanted something that gets good MPG on regular fuel, requires little to no maintainance, wouldn't be a complete bore to drive and could easily haul all my Kart racing gear and pull a little trailer. It was pretty much down to this or a new Mazda3 SKYACTIVE. The fit saved me about $4000 and I have more confidence in the reliability of the Honda vs the psuedo-Ford. So that's how I ended up with a FIT.
I used to be into AutoX and was preparing my M3 for track day duty when my cousin turned me onto Kart Racing. So, I sold my E30 BMW, a bunch of parts and wheels and am currently selling my M3. I bought a nice used Kart and it's almost ready to go racing here in a few weeks, just need to get the motor rebuilt, seat mounted and get a hitch on the FIT.
Future plans for the FIT:
Replace the drivers seat with something worthy of being categorized as a human seating device, which the stock seats are not. I will NOT be doing any engine/suspension modifications what so ever (been there done that). The one thing I would like to do is upgrade the stereo. I'll probably start with better speakers with and amp. Later I'll add a sub and probably an aftermarket deck. For now though, I'm just going to drive the car and enjoy it. My M3 was getting about 19-22 mpg on premium, so the FIT is a nice change and fulfilling in it's stock glory. Tinted windows are in the books too, thats about it.
Anyways, I've always done all my own maintainance and have done about everything. I'm pretty knowledgable when it comes to anything regarding mechanics, racing and suspension setup. I'm really burnt out on car work after 3 high-mileage BMWs, so the FIT is a nice change. Yes, it's slow, but I don't need a sports car anymore now that I race Karts and not cars.
Here is my last big project: My 165,000mi. E36 M3 Overhaul
Previous cars over the past few years:
The new car:
Weekend warrior, in the middle of a complete offseason teardown and rebuild. It will be fully assembled in about a week.

Yea I used to race AMA motocross in my younger days. Karting is a safer option and just as, if not more, fun. Wish I would have got into Karting years ago, just didn't realize that one of the best tracks in the country is 50 min from my house. New Castle Motorsports Park / New Castle Raceway / Kart Racing Track, East of Indianapolis, IN

FIT cargo room is FTW!
I'll be pulling a 4x8 trailer for the Kart, but the cargo room will still be put to good use.

Any extra money will probably go towards Kart racing, and keeping my wife happy.

Well my 1st kart race got stormed out today. Probably a good thing, I only had 10 laps of practice and am not up to race speed yet. It's going to take more seat time to find the maximum grip level and trust the kart.
It's nothing like car racing. My car racing brain kept telling me to brake earlier and corner slower than I have to. One I get used to the insane level of grip, I'll be a lot faster.
I found out very quickly how little grip cold (and worn) tires have on a cold track. I took off for the first time and promptly spun out exiting the pits, hehe. We had a good laugh.
The FIT makes a nice little hauler. I got some funny looks from the guys in their full size diesel truck and long enclosed trailers. Also have several people ask me where they could buy a little trailer like that.

^^^ Aint that the truth.
Congrats on the car, you made the right choice regarding reliability.
More info on the trailer, I was thinking of getting something like that for when I have to haul 4'x8' sheetrock/plywood.

Got 3rd place in my first race this past weekend. Qualified 7th and the top 3 took each other out on the first turn. It was a race of carnage and the people that raced smart and stayed out of trouble, not necessarily the fastest, finished up front.
Had some awesome battles in the closing laps. Made the pass for 3rd in the final turn of the last lap after trading 3rd and 4th a few times in the previous laps. It is soooooo much fun. So much fun that I don't at all mind driving a 117hp grandma car (no offense ) every day as long as it hauls me and all my gear to the track on the weekends.
Trailer I got from northerntool.com, just search for 4x8 trailer and you'll find it. Harbor freight sells a similar and cheaper one but the tounge isn't as robust. It folds up and takes up very little space when not in use. The hitch and wiring harness I got from etailer.com and everything was super easy to install. The FIT pulls it surprisingly well. You can tell there's weight back there, but it doesn't struggle at all.
