New J's Racing chamber intake

Ran across this on the J's Racing HP while looking for some parts info. It just went on sale this month, and looks to be a good compromise for those who want a chamber intake with the benefits of a CAI. No idea if it'll fit a USDM Fit or not, but from the placement of the IAT sensor, I'd say not w/o some minor modification first. Price is 73,500 yen ($625) for the carbon/FRP model, and 57,750 yen ($490) for the FRP only model. Gains show 4.4 ps (4.34 hp)@5920rpm/3.6 ft/lbs@4886rpm.

Maybe. Might want to ask in the AJR section in the Vendors area. I did a quick check on Minkara and there's 3 reviews up already, one dated 11/8, so it just hit the market. All seem to say there's a noticeable increase in torque, with no loss at low speeds. There's one particularly long detailed review, but I'm tired and don't feel like working on it tonight -- maybe over the next few days I'll give it a shot. All give it 5 stars, which is the best on Minkara. Looks interesting though, if you've got the cash.

I don't think the cut of the fenders are the same, they would have to design one on a USDM. Tell T1R to make one for the USDM like this, they already have a chamber intake for the Fit.

if we took off the drivers side front fender, is there room to run a CAI hose?? If so, we could almost do this ourselves with the T1R intake.

I don't think it matters though. The filter is connected via a rubber pipe from a simple mount in the fender, kinda like the stock airbox, so there's room for adjustment I'd say. Here's a DIY from one of the reviews I found, if you glance through the pics you'll see what I mean.

LOL, looks like the JDM tunners!!! finally caught on to what i have been saying about short ram intakes, very nice peice indeed, but for 600 bucks i think ill stick with my tried and true Fujita.

while the 4.3 hp may not seem big, it is a big difference once you start driving that thing and moving some air, while a short ram will just lose power as soon as engine bay temps reach operating temps...

First of all, the reason I didn't make a post on the J's Racing intake is because I don't know if they fot to USDM Fit yet. J's Racing is suppose to fit it to our USDM Fit this week and once that is done, I will post up the information.

But for that amount or even less you can spend it on a Fujita/AEM/Aspec product and see better results.

You may get somewhat more horsepower, but not the driveability, which is what chambers are all about. Having that big volume of air sitting, ready to be used instantly, has a big impact on throttle response -- especially in situations where there's a lot of on/off throttle usage (racing, autox, etc.). For example, I know that in a straight line, my Power Box doesn't feel too much different than stock, but when I hit a good winding road the car really feels alive and the engine power is right there when you need it in an instant. That's what you're paying for.

You don't need to take the fender off, just the front bumper cover. And, yeah, I think you could rig the T1R to do it yourself, assuming you could make an adapter to mate the T1R to the hose due to the difference in diameter. Whether you'd lose any power or not is a gamble though, 'cause it might change the tuning of the chamber for the worse, but maybe not. Just need to try it.

todays common CAI from a reputable company will give the same effect of a camber intake due to the length of the entire pipe, maybe even more volume of air. i can see were a regular short ram wouldn't have the same effect as a chamber intake.

oh and BTW, my cars driveabillity is perfect, better than stock even with alot more power up top. id like to dyno one car with several intakes out on the market to settle this discussion, its been done on other cars like the RSX's and other cars before and the JDM airbox/chamber/induction/foam whatever always fail.

just looking at the J's filter you can tell you are going to get air turbulance, all open element filters with concave filter area in the center of the filter will cause air turbulance, but maybe that camber smoothen's it out or something.

test fitting it on your car would be pointless because you have the JDM front end (which is badass) but i saw in one of the pics for the yellow car of the install on it. it screws on to a head light balliast for the HID's (which we don't have). i think it will fit our cars but it will require a different mount for the filter.
