Denso IK22 spark plugs
#21
For the Fit, if you want to try indexing the plugs, is that the correct direction? To have the open end of the plug's gap towards the intake valve? I can figure out how to tell which way the gap is pointing once its tight, but how do i tell which direction is "towards the intake valve"?
thanks

Look at where the intake comes in and where the exhaust goes out. Believe the intake is on the top and exhaust on the bottom so you want the open end of the spark plug pointing upward (towards the intake values). You need to verify this yourself. A mechanic did mine, it was a bit over my expertise as the plugs are Hard To Get To. It does not have to be exact probably 30 degrees off on either side is fine; perhaps a little more. The general procedure for doing this is buy more plugs than you need and use the plugs that seat correctly. You also probably want to buy spark plug washers to change how the seating is so you can get a good index. You want to do the former before the latter. You probably won't use the washers but it won't be good if you needed 1 and didn't have them while you got your car taken apart.
You can mark the wrench to indicate the index to help line them up. Here is where I bought the index washers:
