Backfiring Prevention, possible?

Any ways to prevent backfiring when downshifting when running a performance exhuast?

(And yes, I know putting in the OEM exhuast will fix prevent it)

does the fit really backfire when downshifting? is this NA or Turbo?
how do i know if im car is backfiring? any negatives to backfiring?

i dont think its backfiring, but scavaging (sp?).

iirc, thats when you know you have too little backpressure. there is cold air traveling back into the cylinder

It is N/A, I am running pretty rich right now though

Just noisy

Is definitely backfiring once in a while, a get a large BANG usually if I start downshifting suddenly for any reason. It scared the hell out of me the first couple of times, sounds like a gun shot. It is different from the popping sound which I think you are talking about.... which is also annoying and ghetto sounding.

I think it is related to my rich tune... I really need to deal with that soon.


Just wondering; Does anybody else experience backfiring if you have your Cat removed with a full exhuast system?

oh, no cat? there is probably your problem. you have a lot of unburnt fuel exiting the end of the exhaust pipe

Yeah I know, the new header deleted the Cat.

Lean out your tune. It's your rich AFR that's causing unburned gas to build up in the exhaust. When you get off the throttle, you pump air into the exhaust.

That said, I like it. Makes my Fit sound like a rally car.

i have that issue when i remove the resonator and the cat and without exhaust @ the track.. its normal for me...

lol, I leaned it out to more reasonable levels. Still backfires like a Ford
