idle rpm

what does your rpm stay at when at idle? 1? since my clutch/fidanza flywheel replacement, it stays at around 5, and sometimes at lights the car will slightly shake like its about to stall(only for a second or 2 and has never really stalled). just curious if anybody with the stock flywheel has noticed any of this or if it is because of the lightened flywheel? i know on the install papers for the flywheel it states that there is more chatter, i just didnt think it would chatter much at idle ever?

1 rpm? 5 rpm? Where're your sig figs, man?

Mine idles right around 900rpm when the engine is warmed up.

Do you install the clutch and flywheel yourself? Excess chatter might mean that there's some wobble to the flywheel (read: off-center). I'm only guessing, though...

Sounds like you should try the idle relearn procedure... Unplug your negative battery terminal and let it idle until it's warmed up. Let us know how it goes, I'm looking in to this flywheel too..

the flywheel instructions say that there will be excess chatter compared to the stock flywheel.
and i didnt install myself. i will try unhookin the battery and then back again. thx

what you mean by sig figs?

when it says chatter, it means vibrations when you are engaging the clutch..

IE when you're taking off, there's vibrations until your foot is all the way off the clutch. I had chatter in my old mazda, but that was because the car was a million years old, and at least 4 people had learned on it, so the flywheel was a little bit warped.

500rpm idle is DEFINITELY not chatter, it's wrong. Try the idle relearn and let us know..

yeah thats what i figured they meant by chatter, and why i figured something was wrong with idling at 500 and the car occasionally shaking like its gonna stall. i will try the idle relearn tomorrow after work since all my tools are kept in my work truck,

I hope that fixes your problem! It would be nice to solve it with nothing more than a 10mm wrench huh?

Anyway I'm guessing it's just that your computer is confused somehow by the massively reduced rotating mass, and so is trying to compensate at idle (and failing lol).

Definitely let us know how it goes!

if its when ur engine is coming down in speed then its normal...the reason why stock flywheels are so heavy is they have momentum when spinning so they slow down much, well, slower. when u lighten the flywheel it has no spinning momentum, if i explained that correctly lol. but it is most likely normal. but give the idle prociedure a go, it wont hurt
