getting more power out of my fit

Hey guys, I'm still pretty new to these forums and I've had my VBP fit sport MT for about 2 weeks now. I've gotten better at driving stick, but inclines still scare the bejeesus out of me. I knew the fit wasn't going to be a powerhouse when I got it, but at times I can't help but wish I had more power. I used to drive my dad's titan, so the decrease in hp was pretty significant haha. Anyways, I was looking to get more info on forced induction, to see if its a viable option for me. Things such as cost, if it's legal in CA, if theres a change in mpg, etc. I'm not into racing, I got this car as a cheap daily driver but I just want a little more power! thanks guys for your help.

Going FI will cost ya a few grand, at least.

If you want a little more oomph, I'd say go get an intake (or DIY a la Autozone) and some headers.

The HKS TC kit is $3,500.
The T1R TC kit is $3,600
The Kraftwerks SC kit is $3,500.

And you could spend more money on top of the kit for upgraded injectors and such.

As far as I know, the two TC's show a very small decrease in MPG (like -1 to -3mpg) and the KW SC results in the same MPG, basically.

This is all a numbers game, set your budget and start from there.

Ultra-Low Budget = Do-it yourself short ram intake & remove muffler
(40-100$)

Low Budget = CAI or chamber intake, exhuast & pulley
(200-500$)

Moderate Budget = Intake\Header\muffler\Pulley
(600-1000$)

Big Budget = Intake\Header\Muffler\Pulley\TUNING\B-pipe\TestPipe\Intake Manifold.
(1000-3000$)

Crazy Budget = Forced Induction (as mentioned above)
(3500+)

Now, not to say you can't spend more.... My own Naturally Aspirated mods have long surpassed what FI would have cost me. But like I tell everybody, if I was truly in it for power I would have gotten a different car to start.

T1R kit is $3,895 not including shipping.
HKS kit retails @ 2,995 at a lot of places with free shipping offers.

Thanks guys for the replies. I've been looking around the forum, and it seems the T1R kit isn't carb legal, and I live in CA so that would be a problem. Between the KWSC and HKS kit, which would you guys recommend? Any information on hp gains, etc would be nice. Thanks!

there's threads everywhere about the KWSC and HKS kit.

Stock for stock they both make around 120whp without anything else
kwsc - 5psi
hks - 5.7 psi

start adding exhaust, injectors, tuning and power will increase significantly
Gd3kamiwanaB is making 145whp with HKS and exhaust
jdmchris is making over 170whp at least with KWSC 8psi and exhaust, etc.

they are both going to give you similar power delivery i their bolt on form. the kraftwerks will be less of a hassle as you wont need to worry about taking it to a tuner who is familiar with hks' engine program.

Yeah, I have searched other threads but I couldn't really find that much information. I think I saw somewhere that MPG pretty much stays the same, is that true? Which would be less expensive, to obtain and maintain? I know turbos require more care. Also, if any of you guys could give me a little bit more information about the differences between TC and SC? I know SC give you more linear power delivery while TC give you more torque, but other than that I'm lost.

TC'd cars have turbo lag. Gotta wait for the turbo to spool up to a speed that will actually produce boost/power. SC doesn't have any lag.

i think waiting 3500 rpms for the turbo (not the turbo manifold) to spool is negligible in the Fit.

it's all about preference
