Share pics of your CAI setup....

Please help me out. I'd like to see pictures of all the different CAI (Cold Air Intake) options available for the Fit installed on your Fit's. There are just to many different kinds out there to choose from. I just can decide, so I thought I ask all you Fit owners for your experience's with this topic. Please share your experience with your setup.

How difficult was the install?

Did it help your fuel mileage?

Can you "feel" the difference in hp?

How much hp did the manufacturer of your CAI claim you would gain?

Do You feel like you achieved the advertised hp gain

Why did you choose the CAI you did?

Would you buy the same one again?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Hey FitSportGirl,

I spotted your lonely post here, there is a lot of information on this thread you can look through but I will give you a few pointers to get started.

Basically if you have an Auto you only have 1 option for a Cold Air Intake, Injen makes one that has impressive power gains (Injen claims 6-7hp in the upper end)

If you have a manual the door opens because the routing for the rest of the CAI's can flow through some extra space below the engine. Good ones are the Fujita (one piece, proven power gains), A-Spec (rumored to have the best sound around), AEM (with the anti-hydrolock... so no fear of deep water!).

There are a few other kinds, the chamber intakes which are sort of a big fat tube of air and it gets drawn under the hood provide great low end power and good gains throughout the power bands. The two that stand out the most are the T1R (all Carbon and sleek) and the H-Fit (ulgy, but efficient!).

Also there are an assortment of SRI's available. Stay away from K&N, they have a really crappy product line for the Fit. There is some home made ones on here that look great and are easy to assemble for like 40$ if you are interested. It should be stickied on this subject thread.

Anyway, here is mine and some answers to your questions;

1) Install was good, a bit tricky but nothing I couldn't handle. Directions were good, although it mentioned nothing about watching out for the radiator fluid that pours out when re-routing the throttle body feed line. I believe mine is the only intake that re-routes this line. One thing to note is the easiest way for the install is to have the car on a jack stand to get at the lower area where the filter is installed in behind the driver side fog light.

2) From what I observed it helped my MPG on the highway

3) My intake claims about 5hp, however Import Tuner verified that in independent testing.

4) I could feel the power increase right away, car sounds like it can breathe much better now.

5) I love my intake, I recommend it to everybody. Honestly I think a 1 piece intake has a huge advantage and it really cleans out the junk in the engine bay. I got rid of tons of other tubes and stuff, it is a really well thought out product in my opinion. Also the re-usable filter only needs to be washed with soap and water and not re-oiled. It was a little pricey, not as much as some of the other ones I mentioned, but I really feel I got my money's worth at the end of the day.

Cheers!

Cia

Are you in any way worried about emissions? And keep in mind I'm no mechanic.

Shouldn't have any impact on your emissions None of your emission controls are affected.

ya all the intakes dont mess really with ur emissions, the only difference between them is a CARB sticker, which states that the intake in ok to run through ur car legally. all intakes run the same its just some havnt paid the money to get it CARB legal, AEM and K&N are pretty much all the intakes that i know of that sell CARB legal intake systems, u might notice that ur paying more for those intakes due to bec they need to make there money back some how for spending all of it to get a sticker

ya it has, there one of the main ones that only sell their intakes with a CARB sticker on it. check out my thread i just posted about how to fix that intake to run in the rainy season and not get hydrolock, it might help ya out

hey, quick question on installing the fujita, i am getting mine in a few days and was wondering if its really necessary to reroute the coolant and engine lines, or if I would be better off just running a shorter hose from the metal piece that was there orig.

thanks

Hey FitSportGirl i would recommend getting the A-Spec CAI because its the easiest to install, the regular ones (mine too) you gotta go through with removing the bumper and stuff, its easy to remove but its inconvenient in case u ever get a ticket for intake/switch it for rain/dont want dealer to know about it. The A-spec is one piece and you just put it right in! My HPS CAI is okay but i hate that you gotta bolt it onto the TRANNY... i hope i bolted it on right but when i got it, it came with no instructions even though i went to their shop to pick it up and so i had to figure out myself how to do it. I'd def. go for A-spec, i just noticed the HPS was a TEENY bit cheaper so i thought i'd try it.. phail for ease of removal

Dealers don't care. Intakes don't void warranties and dealers don't deal with emissions

I have the mishimoto carbon fiber intake and I'm very plesed with the gains. feels tons better above 3,500 and big difference between 4,500 and 5,500. install is fairly simple. only need a screw driver and ratchet with a 10mm socket (i believe) and an extension. mpg seemed to go up as well. power for getting on the freeway and passing people was very noticable.

do you need to do the ecu reset, or is that just for if the cel comes on or high idle rpms?

thanks

Homemade Cold Air Intake(Filter from OReillys, coupler from OReillys, PVC from Lowes) - $25 - 50

How difficult was the install?
5 minutes, flathead screwdriver was all the install required. Removal of the stock unit I think required a socket or two.
Did it help your fuel mileage?
2-3 mpg
Can you "feel" the difference in hp?
Definitely.
How much hp did the manufacturer of your CAI claim you would gain?
uh.. I assumed 2-5 HP
Do You feel like you achieved the advertised hp gain
Definitely.
Why did you choose the CAI you did?
Put them on my other cars, always worked. Cheapest route, 90% as effective if not 100% as effective as other intakes.
Would you buy the same one again?
Obviously :-P

And I didn't reset my ECU until today(2 weeks later), but I did notice a difference in low end torque, however the power at the top of the powerband lessened. I read that it's really only temporary, though, at least the change in powerband.

Should be no CEL as a result of just an intake. After you install the CAI you can pretty much drive right away, I would check your rad fluid levels just in case though.

I think it cleans up on the engine bay, but you could probably do it that way as well.

If you do re-route it as the instructions say I would wait until the car has cooled down. You can unplug the top tube, pop in your new one.... then when you pull out the lower existing tube jam the new one on as fast as possible because it will spew radiator fluid all over the place otherwise. If the car is warm that fluid will be too hot to do that trick and you will have to let it just drain.

I do think removing the extra piping makes it look soooooo much better...

Wish I would have read this before I did my install an hour ago, I lost quite a bit of coolant sprayed all over my fans. I got my coolant topped off but am still having my too hot temp light flashing .

I'll let the engine totally cool down and drive it again tonight, but from what I could see my fans weren't even going..

^^^ sorry bud, that sucks!

Yeah my car stank like rad fluid for a couple of days after that. I wish they had said something in the installation guide so I could have avoided that myself.

You have to make sure there isn't any air in the system, best thing to do it top it up and then run it for about 5-10 minutes. Then top it off again. It shouldn't hurt your fan, just take it down to the carwash and clean off the fluid when you have a chance.

I think that front fan will only run when the relay kicks in at a certain temp reading.

hey, got it installed, works great, looks exactly like yours.

ya i also spilled a bit of coolant but i was expecting it so i just put my finger over the hole until i was ready to shove the new hose on. I was worried for a few min because the hose didnt seem tight at all on the spout, even with the factory clamps, but I guess that was because of the coolant acting as a lube, it is snug now that everything has dried off

and yes, coolant smells like ass, especially day old coolant.

sugarphreak, how are you liking the intake manifold? i am looking to get one after the exhaust, what kinds of gains are you seeing. i heard weapon r fixed the cel problem?

I haven't installed the CAI from AFE, but I used their drop-in filter called the Pro-DryS. I noticed a 10% increase in MPG, not sure if that is your thing. But they (AFE) do have a CAI available now. You can see them at advanced Flow engineering (aFe) Air Filters & Intake Systems or (I hope this works):
