short shifter help

I was pondering getting a short throw shifter for the Fit and was hoping to get some help with this. Is it a hard thing to install? Is Mugen the only company that offers this kit?

This is the one I was looking at.

A&J Racing :: Drivetrain :: Fit/Jazz (GD3/4) :: Mugen Short shifter - Honda Fit 07-08 GD3

any help/opinions appreciated. I'm just being nibby right now.

I have a Mugen short shifter and I love it, but the only thing about it is that does cost a cool 220 bucks. I've also talked to the guys at H-Fit.com and their short shifter kit is going for like $75 and also looks to be a really solid kit. I actually thought there were some things about it that I liked better. The Mugen short shifter sits lower and provides a pretty good amount of throw reduction without sacraficing the ease of changing gears like the stock setup. The H-Fit.com shifter kit retains the stock height (if you are someone who has difficulty pushing the shifter in 5th, either because of short arms or long legs) and increases the notchiness in the shifter feel. The notchiness is good if you're looking for a more positive shifter feel. I also do believe that they are going to be offering it with a shifter as part of their kit. After discussing the installation of the Skunk2 short throw shifter with the H-Fit guys, I would say that you should definitely not got that kit, since it requires a screw placed at an angle screwed against the ball joint of the shifter in order to hold its position. My $0.02.

I wouldn't mind paying the $220 for the Mugen kit, I just wanted to get someone's opinion on it before I went ahead and bought it. From what I know about Mugen, they make some pretty solid products. Does the Mugen actually shorten the shifter itself as well?

I did read through most of the posts, but was looking for an opinion of someone that actually had the Mugen shifter installed. Sorry for any confusion.

reading the h-fit reviews for their short shifter it uses the stock , and reduces the shift throw, but if you want the shift lower then you can buy the mugen

How does the H-fit kit differ? I've been waiting for H-fit to release theirs and missed it until this thread. From the pics it looks like the H-fit SS kit uses either 2 or 4 set screws to hold onto the shifter, picture is dark so it looks like there are only 2.
Also, at the current price you could get the skunk SS cheaper and get the hard mounts later from H-Fit for about the same cost of the introductory price of the full H-fit kit. Not knocking the H-fit guys, I have the SSI from them and love it.

I just put in the H-fit short shifter (it uses 4 set screws) and a Skunk2 shift knob ... the installation on the 09 GE8 is simpler than it appears in the instructions.
It works very well in my opinion and looks nice.
