Dust and pollen filter?

Any one know where the dust and pollen filter is located and had they changed it yet?

While getting the Fit's oil & filter changed, the mechanic (one of the 10-minute lube places) showed me the dust & pollen filter, which was very dirty (over 15,000 miles on the odometer). He said I could pick up a new one at the Honda dealership and if they charge for installation, he'd do it for me for free. Based on what I just read on the Forum, it shouldn't be complicated, but the local Honda dealership (where I bought the car) wants $29.19 plus tax for the part, and $40 for installation (figuring 30 minutes). After an o&f change there that took them 2.5 hours to complete, I never went back for service. Sounds like a simple job, correct?

The replacement took me less than 5 minutes. I have removed the 4 big tabs of the filter cover in order for the air to flow through the filter. Is that neccessary to remove?

Not necessary but a popular thing to do. Don't think it makes a great deal of difference taking the tabs out but the pollen filter sure makes a HUGE difference over none.

Definitely a 2 min job. 5 min including cutting out the tabs but a Honda dealer sure wouldn't do that. 30 mins must include the time for the apprentice to get the workshops coffee order from Starbucks since the customer is paying for their coffee breaks.

How do you remove the glovebox tray from Jazz without breaking it? The owner manual shows 3 tabs behind the top edge of tray but they're inaccessible. I don't want to use excessive force pulling on tray edge. There's 2 slots under top edge of tray-do you pull on these? Once the tray's removed how do you get at the pollen box and what's these tab things everyone mentions?

Also how do I do same job on CR-V? There's 2 plastic tabs on inside of glovebox. Do I push these outwards to release the hook/hinge things?

Thanks
Alintak
