2007 Fit thump
Hello, I recently changed the clutch in my 07 Fit at 69,000 miles. Been on the road about a week and just developed a rhythmic thumping when I decelerate between 20 and 10 MPH. When I accelerate in that speed range no noise only when the engine is not driving the vehicle forward.
I put the vehicle back on the lift this evening and looked around and all looks well. Even ran it up to 20 and no thump. Took down back on the road and same scenario.....Help!
Thanks

Did you check that your axles are fully seated in the transmission? Distinctive click felt when the circlips seated? CV joints fully seated too - you pried (not pulled) them out of the transmission? Because it sounds different accelerating vs decelerating, I'd suspect the axles first. I'm guessing no sound when decelerating in neutral, only when in gear?

Thanks Doc.
I removed both CVs very carefully by prying not pulling. However when I put the back together the driver side CV closest to the transmission came out of the socket. I put it back in and figured all was well but maybe not???
In Neutral or with the clutch pedal depressed the sound seems louder than when I simply let it coast down in gear (decelerating). As soon as I apply a little power sound goes away. Also when decelerating as soon as I apply some brake pressure the sound goes away.
I sure appreciate your help!

No problem. I suspect it might be that CV joint or where the axle mates to the transmission. Basically, something to do with the axle or its joint(s). You might need to hold the axle vertical and pound it on the ground to get it fully seated. You might just need to backtrack and double check everything you did. That would be the best bet but it can be a pain too. Good luck!
