Cleaning engine bay

Hey guys,

We had big snow storm a few weeks again and i was on the highway for a few hours. Now my engine bay is a wreck.

Is it OK to just spray it down? I noticed the owners manual recommended NOT spraying under the hood, but I've never had a problem doing it on any other cars. Is there anything i'd have to worry about messing up?

Stay away from the alternator. Simple Green leaves pleasing results.

I concur! I also practice this technique. I spray it down with Simple Green, and let it do the work...lightly hose it off...then hit the stubborn spots a second time. If needed, I'll scrub the problem areas with a toothbrush.
I didn't think about the alternator issue though. What will the water do to it?

Nothing at all. Rain water blows entirely through the engine bay at freeway speeds but nothing negative results from that. All of the parts of the alternator are waterproof, especially the high amperage wiring.

Yes I always spray my bay down at the self-serve car wash, no ill effects so far. I avoid directly spraying the alternator for no reason other than i've heard it's not a good idea, but i've always thought the same thing as Triskelion posted.

the stator inside your alternator is dipped in a non conductive enamel like material. Its water resistant. you can get it wet just keep it low pressure and brief.

meguiars has a over the counter bottle for engine degreasing, they also have stronger stuff like super degreaser. also maybe some micro fiber towel to wipe down after a rinse and some dress up would be nice

This should be on Meguiar's website in the before/after section. Great job!

Looks great dude! Good Job. I sprayed my engine bay out a month or so back but didn't have time to degrease it or anything because it was to flippin cold. Now that it's warming up i can break out the hose at home and give it a better cleaning.

Your alternator and the fuse box. Try not to spray too hard on the injector tops.
