for lack of a better term, the "hood" that goes over the gauge cluster in my '08 fit sport is rattling. it's not a constant rattle. it only seems to occur when hitting bumps, although sometimes it will sustain itself if i'm on a rougher road (say one that was tarred and chipped).

upon closer inspection, there are two pieces to the hood. there's a larger piece that makes up a majority of the hood and is attached to the dash, and then there's a smaller lip which fits into the front edge of the larger piece. i think it's the lip that's rattling. it doesn't look like it's fit tightly into the other piece. and i can also see some jagged spots along the edge of the plastic. it almost looks like someone might have tried to pry the two pieces apart with a flat head screw driver at some point in time.

any ideas as to how i can fix this? it's the only rattle i have and it's driving me nuts! i'm a little afraid to pull these pieces apart... doing so might just make the problem worse. i'm not sure how i can get any adhesive foam in there though as the gap between the two pieces is very, very small.

also any ideas as to why someone would have tried to pull the lip of the hood off in the first place?

 

i would take it apart and sandwich hard felt in there.
