Need help fixing this Jerky Fit!!

My girlfriend has a 2007 fit that began giving her some troubles around 8 months ago. Her check engine light came on and she said her car was jerking while sitting idle. We got the check engine code read and it was suggested we changed her spark plugs, which we did with new NGK plugs.

The jerking stopped... for about a week After it came back I started doing some more research on my own and started reading about the "jerky fit" problem that seems to be prevelant around here. We were trying to delay having to replace any ignition coils, so I tried regapping the spark plugs, as suggested by some users on here. While doing that, I pulled the coils apart and cleaned away some of the corrosive matter and loaded them up with dielectric grease, as a few had suggested this could help. I also noticed while in there that the plugs were looking pretty burnt up and the grease in one of the coils had turned a yellow almost earwax like gunk.

Again, the jerking stopped, but this time for only about two days. Around this time, the water pump went out on my Jeep, so we were sharing one car for about 3 days, sometimes with 4 people in the car. When loaded up with people the problem became really bad. We had to stop driving it for fear it would crap out on us going up a hill or something. It was and alway has been the worst at idle/low rpms.

So, we have now decided it's time to just bite the bullet and replace everything so we can hopefully put this behind us. However, we still would like to do this as cheap as possible, so my REAL questions are as follows:

-What are the cheapest, yet reliable, ignition coils for her fit?

-I'm assuming I should go ahead and change out the burnt plugs while I'm at it - but do I really need NGK plugs?? If not, again, what are the cheapest, yet reliable, spark plugs that will work here?

-Again, I'm guessing it would be best to just replace all 4 coils? We had the codes read and every cylinder had misfired at one point, so no real clues there, I dont think.

-Any thing else I need to do or try before throwing the money at these parts?

Sorry for such a long post, just wanted to give as much background as possible. I've done a lot of reading, but just wanna make sure I get this right, we are pretty sick of dealing with it. Thanks!

Strange to me that your new plugs would be "burnt up" after only a week.

Normally in OUR cars the issue is in fact the coil packs, but that doesn't rule out other common problems. Could be wires, the plugs (less likely as you already did this), or one of the sensors. I'm thinking the MAF sensor or possibly an 02 sensor, both based on my thought that possibly your "burnt plugs" were caused by incorrect A/F mixture. But if that plug observation is just a red herring, could also be TPS sensor.

But my assumption is that a sensor failure, as well as misfiring coil packs, should ALL be throwing codes if its an issue. I mean I know sometimes the codes don't capture everything but I try to make myself trust them as a diagnostic aid. If you only got codes for the coils, I'd start there.

Anyone else?

They did not burn up after a week. The jerking started again after a week, but I did not get in there to regap the plugs or anything else until about 5 or 6 months after changing the plugs.

The jerking was light and tollerable at that time, but since then we moved cross country in the summer (1200 miles in 100 degree weather) and had those 3 or 4 days where it was frequently fully loaded. Since then, it has not been tolerable, so we have been sharing my jeep until we get this fixed.

I suppose sensors are a possibility, but considering how it went away, if even for a short while, when installing new or regapping the plugs makes me think it's the coils. The symptoms are also IDENTICAL to others on here describing their "jerky fit" problems, and it seems to be generally accepted that the coils are the problem.

PS - The only codes we've gotten are for misfires. We have gotten them for each cylider individually and also for multiple random misfires

Then yes, I would agree with you. Probably the coils.

Can anyone else answer the OTHER questions?

Thanks for the input. Anybody else?? Not sure what parts I need here.

Whould these coils work fine? 60 day mony back guarantee, but I'm always sketched out by ebay. 2007 08 Honda Fit New Set of 4 Ignition Coil on Plug Coils Pack 1 5L 4 Cyl UF581 | eBay

These are the 2 kinds of spark plugs I'm looking at if they would work for her vehicle
Buy E3 Premium Special Electrode Automotive Spark Plug E3.48 at Advance Auto Parts
or
Buy Denso PK20TT Platinum TT Spark Plug 4504 at Advance Auto Parts

What are the negatives of either of these plugs compared to the NGKs?

Any help appreciated, want to get this fixed ASAP
