Question about intake cleaning chemical??
Short Backstory: I got a little busy this weekend and was unable to change my oil so I ran to a "chain" oil place, paid the extra to have the "good" stuff put in according to the owners manual. If any of you ever have your oil changed at these places you know what comes next.
Salesman comes in to make a pitch for the extra maintenance work and what not. I can replace both the cabin and the air filters cheaper than what they can do it for so I spaced off during that part of the presentation. What caught my attention is he started going on about newer cars having Iridium spark plugs and due to the emissions recycling the L15 does it requires a chemical sprayed into the throttle body and run through the fuel system. He said it helps keep the plugs clean and cleans the carbon build up off of the piston tops. He then pointed to my air filter and proceeded to show an elliptical "particulate" catch pattern. Basically the air filter has dark ovals on it instead of a uniform dirty filter. He then said that this chemical, which he never mentioned by name, is hard to get unless your ASE certified and know a distributor to get it.
So my question is this: How much of that is bunk and how much is legit. If this is a real thing whats it called and where can I get it? Its a 2007 with about 55k on it. The intake is getting ready to be replaced so I am curious about this, as this would be the first time I have ever heard of this type of procedure, which he then said he could discount to $130 for a first time customer.

I call BUNK!
You can do as well using a Top-Tier gas
Top Tier Gasoline
and occasionally running the car "through the gears". The high RPMs clean out the injectors.
$130? For $50 I'll run it though the gears for ya!

BTW at 55K miles I would suggest adjusting the valve lash. We did ours at about 60K and it needed it.
