oil/filter preferences?
is there any "ideal" oil or oil filter to use on a modded fit? ive been using synthetic 10w-30 and pretty much whatever filter i pick up at auto zone.. also my fit has about 117,000 miles on it.
what has everyone else been using?

you can't go wrong with Mobil 1 5w20 and a mobil 1 oil filter.
that's what i use, purolator also makes a good filter, so does Napa ( Wix)
it's basically your personal preference
most oils are good these days, just choose a good filter

Since Honda recommends filter replacements every OTHER oil change,
And most DIYers change the filter each time, you are probably OK with whatever you buy. BTW SuperTech (Walmart house brand) filters are good for the price and are manufactured by Champion Labs (respected brand).
That said I use OE filters (high end rebranded FRAMs) or Pure One.

Curious about your question, however. My 2010 is labeled for 5W20 - you use 10W30. After 117K miles it's running smooth. What mod made you decide on that oil?
Oil has been debated/discussed many many times on this and many other forums. Ideal is hardly agreed on...

My gut tells me the Fit will run just fine on any name brand oil/filter of the correct weight. Many folks get real subjective about it and end up using what makes them feel better.

Went to Walmart and beginning to see the new GF5 oils, They had no 0w20 or 0w30 oils.

thicker oil you will lose gas consumption, there's no harm in using it. thinner oil better for gas conumption, we aren't talking a lot here, maybe .5-1mpg.
I have had great experience with Mobil 1 full synthetic and the Mobil 1 oil filter,
i change my oil once every 6 months. the honda indicator light usually doesn't come on until around 8000-10000 range

Mobile1 0w20 w/ napa/wix silver filter
Oil @ walmart 7.89 a qt.
Napa silver oil filter 3.59 is the best bang for the buck,The gold is 8.00 and not worth the extra $ from the internals breakdown. Frame oil filters are the lowest quality on the market.
This is what I've found to deliver the best mpg speaking of which when you drain the A/T version of the Fit again Mobile1 full synthetic is best for the $ in what I've used.
Amsoil is a great product just Too expensive.
If ya stay on top of your maintenance then like KC said there will be little difference between dinosaur and synthetics.
Mike
PS if you have 117k and not an oil related prob. your do'n a

Sounds like everyone is going with synthetic 5w-30? I've heard alot of good things about mobil, and it's pretty cheap at walmart so that's a plus also! I am mostly curious about the weight of oil.. My engine mods are pretty much just a turbo and exhaust. Well so far atleast trying to get atleast another 117,000 out of her! I live in the desert so in the summer it's 90-100 degrees daily.. So maybe the 10w oil is actually a better choice then?

I've only ran Mobil 1 oil and filters in my truck for the last 130,000+ miles and I'll continue to do the same with the fit when the time comes. Sams club has the best price by me that I've found. You can buy it in 6 quart cases.

Shell Rotella 5w40 synthetic.
30w would work, 40w is better for your purposes.

This is my first summer with the fit, and yeah on a good summer day it can get towards 100 degrees. So 5w30 or 40 would be a better choice than 10w30? What's the difference exactly? And should I change oils during the winter?

I think I'm going to end up doing this with my Fit after I get my results from Blackstone Lab (gotta get around to getting the kit) Buy Mobil 1 EP 5w20 (Extended Performance) and use either the Mobil 1 or Royal Purple filter. Then drive about 7500 miles, change out the filter and drive another 7500 miles and THEN change out the oil. That Mobil 1 EP is supposed to be good for 15k, well, we'll see what my regular Mobil 1 comes back saying about its oil life.
Its too bad they don't offer 0w for the EP, who knows, maybe the results will come in that I can leave the regular Mobil 1 in for 10-12k.

Here is some interesting reading of what the API has to say. http://www.api.org/certifications/en...11_Version.pdf

5w is the relative viscosity at 32F, and this is a compromise for a few reasons. 5w is still thin enough when cold to get flowing faster than the 10w and get under the wedge to encourage hydronamic lubrication sooner which means less wear. This means your pressure will still build faster than a 0w but it won't be as high at start up as the 10w. Depending on your turbo CHRA type that can make a big difference.
I recommend the 40w which is the "hot" weight, because of how hot the turbo's center section gets, and that heat and shear are the biggest enemies for oil. It stands up to heat better and it helps keep the film between moving parts under higher than stock cylinder pressures.
There's a couple good threads on this topic here if your search

Do you have a ball bearing or a journal bearing turbo? Is it fed off the cylinder head or off the oil filter housing?

does this mean 5w-40 would be the recommended weight year round? or would it be better to switch it up to something like 5w-30 during the winter?
ive searched through the forums quite a bit before posting, but i couldnt find anything really about the IDEAL oil for a turboed fit
