Cruise Control for base model
#42
I have the service manual. And from the looks of the diagram, I think my original suspicion may be correct. Like too many other systems in this car (flasher relay for example), the drive-by-wire cruise control goes through the gauge control module built into the gauge cluster. Every single wire except ground that comes out of the cruise control combination switch (4 in total), goes directly into the gauge control module. Also, like the fog light indicator in the gauges of the sport model, the cruise main indicator and cruise control indicator LEDs are both also built into the Sport version of the gauge cluster/control module, but is non-existent in the base model.
I can tell you where the wires need to go from the cruise control combination switch, but my guess is your base model gauge control module is missing the circuits that actually control the cruise. I certainly hope someone can prove me wrong though, as that was the one thing I wish I had on my LX trim Fit. And to add a slap to the face, Honda Canada decided to include cruise on the LX trim within 6 months of me picking up my car.
Oh well. I suppose I don't really use cruise all that often anyway.

I could do without the indicator LEDs - I've never had a car with indicators for CC before. Or just stick an LED somewhere else.

XK601 in a 2008 Fit for Cruise
Has anyone put the XK601 cruise control unit in a 2008 fit yet? It is advertised to work for the 2007 fit, but does not specifically say it will work for the 2008 fit. I've reviewed the PDF describing how to install it, and it looks like a competent do-it-yourselfer can do the upgrade in an afternoon.
Before I drop $350 I would like some re-assurance that it will work on a 2008 Fit.
If I do end up getting this unit I will post detailed instructions, photos how to install it.

Progress Anyone?
It seems that most of what has been discussed about using the OEM Sport steering wheel or wiring ect.. has been speculative. Has anyone actually tried to swap the wheel yet? I am not willing to deal with an extra stalk on my column and I would like to add cruise to my Fit.
LKQ Salvage company lists the sport steering wheels on ebay quite regularly and they can be had for a menial price. Plus, you get the leather.
If nobody has actually attempted this yet, I think I might jump in and have a go at it.

Not much progress
I went so far as to buy the button assembly and wires, which should be an easy re-fit (pardon the pun) for a base model. From the drawing it appear you have to remove one bolt to release the horn/airbag combination and another to remove the cover panel, and then the new button panel just replaces that.
The downside is that I think the spool (or clockspring, as some call it) that carries the wires through the steering column assembly is a different part number, and I'm not sure there are any conductors for the cruise wires.
You can buy that part too (or salvage it), but it's just more work than I've gotten around to.
I'm using the Rostra pushbuttons, and it's "good enough" that its removed much of my initiative to do more. At least it works reliably.
