Dead Battery
#42
OP, If this is actually the situation, I would go have a chat with the tech desk at your dealership, they should be able to help you out.

Hello. I just bought a 2007 honda fit sport 5 weeks ago and of course the battery is dead. Its been in the 20s-30s here, but in the past I've never had cold weather do anything to the battery. I've been researching and it seems that a 51R battery will do the job? I don't want to shell out a lot of money at the dealership to get another battery that dies soon. Any suggestions on brands to get? I'm not even sure what 51R means .. help?

51R is the group size. That's how battery companies size batteries. One companies 51R is more or less the same size as another. One thing about buying a new oem battery is that it's warrantied for three years and pro rated for another five.

I'd a least ask your local Honda dealer if they will replace it free, the worst they will say is "No". I've read some modifications will be needed to make the 51R fit in the battery tray but I've also heard it's a good option if you want to steer clear of the OEM type battery.

I have an update courtesy of geeq. A 99 Miata battery is a viable alternative to the OEM and 51r battery: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...hat-i-did.html

I don't think it was ever resolved as to the part number for the interstate battery, so thought I'd help out:
the Megatron is a 500 CCA battery, part number MT-51R.
It retails between $97-116.
There is also a more conservative alternative, the I-51R. Rated at 425 CCA.
Retail is between $95-101.
The stock Yuasa - I unfortunately have the luck of having a white cased model in my '07 Sport - is rated at 340 CCA. So either of these are a great upgrade.
I should be able to wrangle up some other part numbers for the other autozone, pepboys, car part chain store brands... any special requests?

Duralast Gold - 51R-DLG
Duralast Red - 51R-DL Both of these will be around the $100-110 price point. Call Autozone for availability.
Diehard South - Sears Item# 02830352000 | Model# 30352
This battery is rated at 425 CCA - again, better then the Yuasa, so don't let the name South fool you. retail is $89.
Standard Diehard - Sears Item# 02850452000 | Model# 651RMF Rated at 475 CCA. Retail is $99.
Autocraft Gold - 51R-2, 500 CCA, retail unknown but expect similar $100 average. Call your local Advance Auto Parts.

Hey guys I want to buy a yellow optima. Anyone know which model will fit? I have the stock intake box but will soon put a fujita short ram. Which doesnt really interfere with the battery at all unless the optima is MUCH wider. thanks for the help!
