Oil Filter Magnet

Oil Filter Magnet
This post was inspired by Ricksfit's post in this thread

Well since magnets seem to be helpful keeping the engine in better health by removing harmful ferrous metals from the oil and I didn't want to lose my Fumoto Valve, I opted to make my own Filter Magnet to trap all ferrous metals in the filter since all the oil has to flow through it. People like to use Magnetic drain plugs, but I'm too lazy to replace the washer each time and I also didn't like the idea of having a clump of metal on the end of the a magnetic drain where it could, although unlikely get dislodged, thus I made this filter magnet.
Materials: Magnets and painters tape
The magnets I had were small, strong, rectangular magnets I had laying around in my garage. For this project I used 4 of them and wrapped them in tape.
Here is a nice and easy DIY
I set the magnets side-by-side and wrapped them up in my blues painters tape. As you can see the magnets take up about half the space of the tape. I opted to keep the tape ends because when the magnets stick to each other, having no leverage to pull or slide them apart sucks.
The side marked "Inside =)" was wrapped tightly, while the "Outside =P" was a little looser (as you can tell my the ceases in the picture below) to allow for it to flex one way and wrap around the filter.
I hope this was helpful and that you enjoyed this little distraction from the real world.
If you like you can throw some rep points my way ;-)
