Scraped my paint. Help? Need Advice.

Hi, I recently carelessly pulled out of my parking spot at home and scraped the side of the front bumper. My bf ordered me the OEM touch up paint pen to cover it up. Now we haven't used it yet since my car needs to be washed. Is there anything we should know before we start trying to repaint it? Let me know what you guys think!

Here's a pic of the damage done to my poor baby

sorry its not rotated, I couldn't get it to save as rotated on my computer.

Thanks for all your help guys. (continues go read detailing info)

It's a little hard to tell how big that scratch actually is from that huge picture. If it's small, just clean it and use your touch up paint. If it's bigger, you might need to use the spray cans, which you can get from Touch Up Paint Online - Remove Car Scratches. I have bought from them to paint a front lip before and the match was dead on. When you are using touch up paint though, make sure to put on very little at a time so that it doesn't drip and create a mess. If it drips, you will end up having to sand it and redo, which can be a bit of work.

If ya want it to dissapear, wet sand and respray the bumper. Base/clear coat. trying to touch that up may be messy.

Thanks guys. The scratch is actually not that big. I just wanna cover it up for now. I'll look into the wet sand and respray though. Would I have to do the entire bumper? I don't think I have much time to do something like that and I don't want to really spend $$

A body shop would want on average $300-$500 probably... it depends on your location

It's pretty easy to repair it yourself. All you need is a polisher, orange cutting pad, polishing compound and wax. For newbies and ease of finding, I guess Meguiar's products should do.

I buffed it out on my mom's SSM GD but didn't bother painting it.

To touch-up chips and scrapes, I followed this tutorial...
http://www.g35driver.com/forums/care...polishing.html

After sanding, I did the same polishing process as above.

The factory touch-up paint matched pretty close on the door but elsewhere on the car (not pictured) was even closer.

Touched up two times (4 hours in between). Let it dry overnight.

Sanded down and polished.

Meguiar's 3000 grit sandpaper soaked overnight.
