Replacing Brakes

just replaced the brakes on an 07 fit (gd3) at 36k. brake pads were almost 100% done, peculiar thing is they never made a single squeal until yesterday (at least none that i heard). just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience.

Maybe the wear indicators just started rubbing yesterday which caused the squeal. Were your inside pads worn more than the outside ones? That's what happened on mine. I heard squealing for about a month and was just checking the outside ones and thought everything looked fine. The squealing didn't make any sense until I took everything apart.

i'm not even sure because i took it in to get it done. all he told me was the pads were just done and i had just began hitting the disks. i guess my question is more wondering if anyone had a problem with their wear indicators not making sound at all?

I just changed my pads at 50k on my '08 and can report the same situation with the inside pads nearly done while the outsides were about 4x as thick. There was still some left on the insides but it was close. The wear indicator had not so much as made a peep, but the way it was positioned I think it was just about to. I doubt your pads were as bad as he said they were, and the wear indicators were probably just about to start yelping at you.

Just did mine, 87k, surprising as the car is driven hard/hills, etc. It started to shudder slightly when warm, but the indicators were not hitting the rotor yet. New set of Honda pads and Wagner rotors and life is good again.

did you see the pads for yourself? maybe they just told you it needed replacing when it really didn't. that would explain why the wear indicators weren't squealing. i'm just guessing..

My sport fit has 31000 and the brakes are fine. I read on this site they go fast due to soft material. At 25000 did some shoping for upgrade rotters... Hmm go figure.

I'm at 32K miles on my GE8 and I'm about to replace my front brake pads and rotors. I'm also replacing the rear shoes, installing stainless steel brake lines, and flushing the brake fluid for Motul RBF 660.

please, help am a new in the block, I'm not sure if it is the right corner to ask, i'll appreciate any direction/re-direction on it. FIT MT 2009,change original front brake pad at 47tho miles, mistaken push the piston back overflowing container, has to clean the area, a month later began to ear !click! noise randomly under the car at the time I press the brake pedal, it sound like metal to metal, most of the time at front other at rear side, remade the right process bleeding the 4 corners, but the noise is still there, any idea?

Now, I want to check my rear brake , but I don't know, how to unmount the brake drum in this HFit, I used to hit with a rubber hammer in my cherokee 2000, but here it didn't work. I don't want to make mistake, dealer is not my option don't want those filibusters put their hand in my little Jewell.

Brake drum should just pull right off. Make sure your e-brake isn't set . . .

The inside pads are the ones that have pressure being applied to them causing them to wear faster... You can extend the pad life by removing the caliper and swapping the pads from one side to the other, rough them up a little with course sandpaper when you do to help them set in and not squeal.
