Lightbulb Tip: Cleaning the upholstery

One of the things that has bothered me since I got my new Fit is how easily the black interior gets dirty and how hard it is to vacuum.

Well today I was detailing my Fit and had a moment of inspiration. I got one of those microfiber rags and wet it with only water and rang it out. Then I proceeded to wipe the seats with it and to my amazement the rag lifted the lint and top soil and made the seats look like new again (something my vacuum could never do). I also tried this on the fabric on the doors and it worked great there as well.

Just wanted to share that tip with you all.

I will have to give it a shot once i get my cast off... Maybe even tonight. I have vacuumed the fit many times and it always looks like crap after wards.

I carry a microfiber cloth in the car all the time and use it to dust the dash and seats everyday. I bought a giant pack of cloths at costco over a year ago and I still have half the bag left. They're perfect for waxing/polishing the car too.

Great idea! Thanks for sharing - will have to try this. I have used on the fabric area on the doors but it makes sence that the microfiber would pull up the fabric. I always use a lint brush on my seats before I vac them.

Lintless

Bought some micro-fiber wipes at Walmart. I'll give the water method a try. On the bright side when we drive the Fit, we don't have to worry about lint on our clothes.

Make sure you guys dont use too much water or youll have wet butts.

But the best stuff you can use on your dash is this 1Z Einszett Cockpit Premium Interior Plastic Cleaner

It will not crack or dry the material, or leave it shiny and glossy like armor all. It just leaves a clean matte finish with no static and it smells great. Best product for interior hands down.

The seats are a pain in the ass but it doesnt really bother me. Ive used those lint rollers before though and they work ok. I also just lightly mist a micro fiber towel with an all purpose cleaner and pass it through the seats and it works great. I assume it would work just as good or better than just water.

I've tried everything. I actually have a microfiber in the glove compartment and give random panels a swipe whenever I'm in a parking lot, at a stoplight, when I get in in the morning, etc...

I also have one of those stiff velvet lint brushes that one uses for clothes. It tends to get the worst offenders off of the seats, but there are little pieces of hair (I have a dog) that actually seem to be embedded especially in the solid (non-patterned) panels. I should get seat covers although I do have a very heavy nylon one on the back seat. That helps with the drool.

I used this idea last night when I was spending 5 hours detailing the Fit for the car show today - it worked great. Just slightly dampened the microfiber and it lifted the fabric on the seats to make them look very nice.

Thanks for a great idea!
