Nice tips. Aerostich/RiderWearHouse sells a self-adhesive polyurethane sheet for protecting headlights. I think I'll get some more of the stuff and do the fog lights with it.

"google, honda lawsuit a/c"... Honda and Acura cars both have a defects in relation to design flaws that allow condenser damage.

And I didn't run the DIY gutter guard. I put in a black coated billet grille that has very fine slits. Car doesn't run any hotter, and it looks nice, plus it prevents damage as it is SUPER stiff.
Shaggs where did you get the rubberized undercoating?? Is that a standard item at an auto parts store??

Yea, and at hardware stores too. It's pretty expensive, like 10-12bux a bottle compared to cheap paint, but it holds up a lot longer, and you can paint it any color you want as well. I may have some pics of the bottle or could take some tomorrow. I picked it up at PepBoys. Got a couple bottles of it, and a couple of toolbox coating in gunmetal for some other projects. Came out really well.

And here's my grille

It's seriously hardcore for a grille. It is 10x stronger than my bumper is. That with Yellow laminX and Undercoating on the housings is the best combo EVER!

Thanks, it's the best money I have spent on the fit other than drop/tint/visors. And everytime I wash the car, you would be amazed at the amount of crap stuck to it or the rock hits that just ping off it while driving. It's kind of a must have for the GD3s, especially when you drive 30k+ miles a year.

Smile Pet Screen

I'm thinking of using double pet screen. I am wondering if I can get this on without drilling holes. Anyone have a take on this?

Thanks suketoborudoOO for the link to the fog light/bumper removal.

no problem! glad i could help :-) Not sure what double pet screen looks like, but i used the gutter mesh guard mentioned in this thread without drilling holes, just used plastic zip ties, so far so good.

I'm not sure using pet screen is a good idea. Not only it is weaker (easy to poke holes rough it with something pointy) but it will also clog VERY fast with dirt and debris. The last thing you'd want is to stop the air dam from doing what it was meant to do.

This is what I bought and I plan on installing this weekend. It is plastic, very strong (couldn't tear it with my bare hands) and won't clog.

different material

I've been following this thread for a while and thought this material was pretty cool but pretty pricey

<font color="#FF0000"><b>"HOT SELLER"</b></font> German imported H.Q. RS4 Style Race Mesh - Black Plastic

looks European.

that reminds me, when i was tightening up the zip ties, it stretched one of the links but it didnt break.. so it is strong but it does stretch if you put enough stress on it. i cut the zip tie and used a different link.

That plastic gutter guard has worked well on my older cars. Just a couple zipties and you are in good shape. Best bang for the buck DIY for the fit, because it really does protect the front. The Mr.Grille one was just perfect fitment and black billet, so it's super strong. Both are better options than a broken A/C.

Talking

I installed a mesh grille today and did a step-by-step for anyone that wants to do it. Note that the install was done on a GE8 base model fit. Everyone else is going to have different sized openings but I hope it helps someone!

Everyone has been creative with their grille installs. I got the idea and mesh from suggestions in this thread. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

This may be a stupid question (sorry), but is there a way to install the mesh without actually removing the front bumper, even if it doesn't look as nice? I'm worried about removing the bumper.

He's not removing the bumper at all, only the grill.

How does this stuff compare to the 1/4 " diamond screen from Mc Master Carr?

honestly i couldn't tell you because i've never used any Mc master screen product before.

I should add the reason why the link stretched was from over-tightening the zip-tie. I redid the zipties on some new links and tightened until snug. This stuff is pretty strong so I don't think it will rip unless excessive force is used.

I looked at the gutter guard stuff at Menards and I could tear it by hand. I left it there and ordered from McMaster-Carr.

Shaggs, your grille looks awesome. Can you post a link to where you purchased it from?

Thanks.
