Oil Consumption>?
Hello,
Ok, according to the manual/oil life indicator, we go well beyond the 3000 miles oil changes, @ 20 % oil life i have gone more than 4500 miles... and yesterday i did check the oil level and it is lower than full ( i do my own oil changes and know very well how much i put in, always exactly at the full mark).. anyway.. it was about 5 mm lower (still at about 3/4 full).. but still that is noticeable, so i was wondering do YOU guys see any oil level change... please do check your oil levels and report miles driven since oil had been changed...
what worries me here.. is that we drive further and further on the same oil (5000 miles till 20% oil life indicator) and oil consumption would become more of a matter...
Thanks

Our Fit, purchased early April (now with ~2000 miles) has not lost an appreciable amount of oil, maybe 1-2 mm. Mileage Minder at 80%.
Our '06 CR-V (2.4L engine) dropped about 3/4 of the way down the safe range in the first 5000 miles. (Actually, 3/4 the way down from the top dipstick hole to the bottom hole, is this a US quart?) Now with 25,000 miles it doesn't use ANY. (And we are using 5W-20 synthetic. Boy, that stuff seems THIN.)
If you worry about the effectiveness of oil with today's extended OCIs (Oil Change Intervals) do this: fill the crankcase to less than halfway up the range (no harm unless you are racing, or doing stunt driving on two wheels ). Then midway through the OCI top it off. Just that small amount of fresh oil will provide added protection so that you can sleep at night. (This according to the guys on the BOBISTHEOILGUY forums, who often drain a little oil so that they can have it analyzed. If they top up at any time the next analysis always comes out a little better.)
