Generally, regular Honda oil lasts up to 5k miles on "severe" usage, 10k on "normal". Synthetic oils can go longer change intervals, but i usually keep it on a 5k basis.

Agree,

I use syntetic (mobil 1 5w20) or syntetic blend (motorcraft 5w20) with K&N oil filter P# HP-1010, and anyway change it at the indicated 15% oil life. Plus if I go to a track day( been only to one, but this will be the norm), then the very next day change the oil w/out reseting the meter, so mostly will have one change of oil + filter and one of oil only between the 100% indicated oil life.

Since I got the free oil change for life, I change mine at 3K miles. I missed my first oil change miles. I think I was around 4000 somethin. I'm almost there to 6K so I'm going to start taking it in on time.

First one was around 7K miles, oil at 15%.

Second one was at 14,200 miles, oil at 15%.

I'm at 18,400 miles now, oil is at 70% - so it may be a while...

Man, cool extra you guys have in the USDM ones. We don't have any of that hence why my first oil change was at 12500 and the second was at 25600.

I did my first oil change at 3000km. And my 2nd one @ the 7500km mark. Using honda oem oil filter & Castrol GTX non-syn 5w20.

Everytime I have fresh oil in I feel the difference. It does responds quicker & quieter.

7k for me. i use M1 synthetic oil w/ JDM HAMP filter. 5k off stock OEM oil. I do regular stop n go driving.

Oil life indicator is BS. its a thing trying to scare non-auto savy folks to bring their cars into the dealer. it does give a friendly reminder to change oil, however, but also freaks ppl out sometimes. i still need to reset my oil indicator lol.

Just got my oil changed on my car: it was not very dirty. I replaced it with more 5-20 Mobil-1 as well as a K&N filter. How often do you really have to change oil with the new synthetics? Is it OK to just change the filer every 5000 miles and the oil @ 10000? Or do you treat the synthetic as regular oil? and now Mobil-1 has a 15000 mile motor oil... thought I'd ask...

I change my engine oil every 4000km normally. Less than every 5000km for sure. Coz oil & filters are cheap, but engine are expensive.

Fresh oil & clean filter lubricate, cool down, clean ups better.

engine oils

Ok, I'm about to hit the magical 15% oil life left so am thinking about the type of engine oil and filter to use. I know alot of people have said the first oilchange at honda is free but apparently my dealership doesnt know of this policy and want to charge me $40 for a change with mineral and $60 for synthetic ... yeah right

It turns out a family friend has a garage (heated ... really important cuz its bloody freezing outside) and doesn't mind letting me perform the change there as long as i provide the materials (filter and oil)

anyways the car has 10,000 km on it which is about 6,200 miles. I'm debating on whether i should switch to synthetic yet as opposed to staying on mineral oil. break in should be over so I wanna go for synthetic but am unsure of which brand is best. Ive heard bad thigns about penzoil and good things about mobil 1 and castrol but am undecided (please help)

As for the oil filter does it pay to stay with the honda OEM filters or does aftermarket make more sense (is it better value for money) if so, which brands ??

thank you for your inputs everyone, btw does using 5w30 make that much of a difference even though it's rated for 5w20 ?? I know that the 30 is just a bit thicker which would be undesirable for colder conditions but considering our winter has been pretty weak until recently i'm not worry much about that

i switched out at about 7k miles to Castrol Syntec 5-20w and HAMP filters (still made by Toyo-Roki and not Filtech). combo works great and car feels fine. i only have about 2-3 HAMP filters left so i may switch to K&N or just place another order for the HAMP's.

switching to 5-30 shoudnt be an issue but 5-20 is what honda recommends.....i live in sunny CA where our winter is a chilly 50-60 degrees and a winter storm is a day or 2 of sprinkles....so 5-20 works fine

My best advice after 40+ years of working on cars--
visit AMSOIL Corporate - Source of the World's Best Synthetic Lubricants - Motor Oil and Filters. Look at their info. on oils and filters (there is a LOT to see), then make up your own mind. Amsoil was the first company to make synthetic automotive lubricants, and they still make the best.
