Re-Keying Gas Cap Cylinder

I called my local Honda dealer and they said that the gas cap key cylinder couldn't be re-keyed so that my car key would open it. Is this true? Have any of you had your gas cap re-keyed? Can anyone recommend a locksmith who can do this?

There are a couple of folks on here who have had it done. Just call around and ask some of your local locksmiths if they can do it. From previous posts, looks like it'll run around $20-$30?

It can be done. Finding a locksmith with the correct equipment is the harder part (at least it was for me). Best thing to do is show it to a locksmith in person and see if they can do it. If not, they can at least give you the correct terminology to start calling around and asking other locksmiths.

Took me 10 minutes with the yellow pages to locate a locksmith in my area that could rekey it. Cost me 20$.

Man I'm getting ripped off. Thanks guys for the quotes. This mobile locksmith is charging me $65. Bad thing about it is he arleady took the key cylinder apart and ordered parts (tumblers) for it. So I think that I'm locked in and can't get out of this situation.
