Car "breaking in" and Eco
I just rolled over 2500 miles.
Ever single fill has been better and better MPG. I know my eco driving skills are improving , but was wondering if others have seen noticeable gains in fuel usage around this time or longer?
It's pretty easy to get 40+ on my commute now.
70% 65mph freeway and
the balance 45mph roads with lots of lights. 53miles RT

Yeah I am noticing a bit of an increase and I am kinda around your miles too.
I definately had an increase from when I drove it off the lot and my first two tanks to now. Some of that can easily be attributed to a different driving style, and some quite possibly could be due to an initial break in.(when all things were similar)
My old civic started to really come around between 6k to 10k.
my first tank was 27 something MPG 100% city
and my last one was 36 something MPG 100% city

I got 9,500 miles on my fit right now and Im only getting about 30 mpg max. Im driving extremely conservatively keeping the rpms under 3000 every gear. Whats your secret? Paying 3.50 right now in Chicago... Word is four dollars by summer........

I am experiencing increased fuel mileage with break-in as well. I've attributed most of it to my driving technique since I've picked up a ScanGauge II, but I'm sure some of it has to do with the actual break-in as well. I'm just over 900 miles right now. The weather is already warm here (98 degrees today! ) so I'm sure that has something to do with it. I can definitely tell a difference in the way the car runs when it's cold versus when it is warmed up, mostly in the speed it revs and the ease of the gear shifting. The A/C will be used heavily very shortly so we'll see how that plays out.
I filled up yesterday to the tune of just over 39 mpg, and that's with several sessions with the wife still learning to drive stick. Overall fuel mileage since new is over 37 mpg, so needless to say I'm elated. I've been trying to use neutral coasting and fuel-cutoff deceleration techniques whenever possible so I think that is definitely helping.
