buying a fit, how to haggle?
hey guys, here goes my first post here,
a friend of mine was at honda mississauga today, swung by there cause i told him i was interested in the honda fit sport AT
well, from what the dealer told him, he said that he only had a black and a red manual sport, priced for about ~35 000 with only a couple of the options.
now, i told him that's ridiculous, and the honda fit shouldnt be marked THAT much up, at that price, might as well get a fully loaded civic or a light accord right?
anyway, just wondering what sort of quote's you guys are getting for the honda fit, would appreciate the response...
plus would also appreciate any tips and such, this is gonna be my first car buy (i'm 21)
cheers everyone!

I'm 22, and I really couldn't haggle anything off of the Fit.
People were literally lining up at the dealership where I went to look at the Fit Sport they had there.
I basically put down a $500 deposit to put my name in for the Sport. $22k, no dealer fees, only pdi & freight. they threw in a block heater for free
My concern was finding insurance.
I have 1 accident from last year and most insurance companies don't even know what the Fit is.
I called Monnex and they gave me a quote for a Yaris which is the only comparable thing.

I'm going with the APA route
www.apa.ca
Been talking to customer service, they expect their broker to get finalized deals by this weekend, and they expect 200-300 off
For a $65 membership, it's kinda weak, but it's better than nothing

I'm from Saskatoon and I was told the LX (man) with keyless remote, security, and block heater would run 22k 'out the door'. This is pretty much what it works out to on honda.ca. Im also a first time car buyer...do you think it is realistic to get anything more off this????

I meant 22k including freight and PDI, taxes, and those accessories that I mentioned. It is right on with the price at honda.ca (based on LX at $17,180 MSRP). Does that seem more reasonable to you? or do you think I'm still better off waiting a few months??
ps. I wish I could buy in Alberta with one less tax, but they make us pay the tax if we bring it back

see.. doesn't the Sport come with keyless entry and security though?
it was my understanding most dealers will throw in the block heater for free if you live in a cold region ... and Saskatchewan ain't Palm Springs.
my dealership threw in the block heater for free.

Maybe a better course of action would be to get the keyless entry option, and your block heater with the LX and get an aftermarket security system installed (with a starter) afterwards

Thanks, that is good to know. Just wondering though, why you would suggest getting the factory keyless entry option if I would be getting security and remote starter aftermarket (don't most of them have remote entry as well)??
You have a good point though, I think I will just go with a bare LX and get and aftermarket 2 way security and starter and save $500 or so.

i think that seems like such a rip-off for an LX?
not sure if pricing is different in Saskatchewan.
If you're not absolutely in need of it yet - then wait a few more months?

Those that watch Rick Mercer Report would have enjoyed a skit he had a few weeks ago.

I've concluded that the majority of us in the next few months with supply trickeling in will get shafted in some way or another.
There is a tsunami like wave building demand for this model in N.A. Honda purists and fuel misers alike who have been waiting for a return of a ultra fuel miser with this kind of build quality.
It is sort of sickening when you think about it. I really plan to deal and buy through an autobroker in December/January and drive it then, but now I wonder if todays backlog will set my date of pick-up further.
And for any young male in the 16-25age yr range, insurance will never be cheap compared to our female counterparts. If you had speeding tickets or an accident, you are screwed even more.

^^I can attest to that.
I'm grateful I'm able to go with Monnex's group rates for insurance though.
I priced out some insurance quotes and I would be paying an average of $6k
because of my accident.
With Monnex I'll be paying $3k a year until next May at least and then it'll drop down to $2700.
insurance sucks.

Backlog? Must depend on the dealer. The one where I took the Fit Sport for a test drive sure made it sound like they won't have a supply issue.
Had I been ready to get one, I could have picked it up 48 hours later.
