Importing right-hand drive car

Hi all,

Does anyone know what's involved in importing a right-hand drive vehicle from Japan into Canada (Ontario, specifically) would entail? Pointers would also be much appreciated!

Here's what I know in no particular order:

- Car must be 15 years or older from its manufacture date. In this case, it's 2007, so the latest car you can import is 1992.

- Almost all Japan-imported cars arrive in Vancouver, and most likely delivered to Toronto via rail.

- Canadian dealers will charge you for: cost of the car, all related shipping costs, and applicable taxes.

- Car's worth differs from car-to-car. A lot of JDM cars I see posted are modified, therefore there is really no set standard.

- From a government standpoint, all you need to register the car in Ontario is a safety mechanical inspection certificate, proof of insurance, and all related documents that came with the car (ie. shipping manifest, customs documents, etc.).

Some sights to help you:

Import Concern, Inc. - Japanese Used Vehicle Importer (located in Mtl)

FEAST AE/RS JAPAN (in mtl also I think)

Willz Leasing Corporation - Welcome (toronto, but beemers only)

Good luck

I know that the Canadian government are getting way more strict about things like headlights being changed over to LHD and taillights being changed to DOT spec... Careful you don't get something over here you can't license. Oh, and don't assume that since somebody else got one here a couple of months ago, that you can bring one in and get it licensed.
