Alternator failure at 50k
I had a "check charge system" message appear off and on recently with a few flashing lights. Went in once before and the dealership had no idea what was causing it, so I went in again today.
My alternator has already failed at only 50k miles. Dealership wants $800 to replace it since the warranty ended at 36k. Will probably go to a junkyard to get a replacement to install or just have it rebuilt.
Has anyone else had to replace their alternator already?

My town has a half dozen re builders, best deal usually.
If your killing them that fast I'd get a good auto electric guy to check the function once the new one is in, I'd bet you've got something else wrong. Old batteries can kill alternators.. Aldo power converters, they are NOT compatible with all running engines..

So did you buy a new alternator or did you get it used or rebuilt? Mine has just die with 25 miles. Not sure why. Price is really expensive so I am going to used or rebuilt.
Why did it happend? Any good reason?
