Cleaning the carpets

Cleaning the carpets
My 2015 EX drivers side carpet could use some cleaning after this years harsh winter.
I am wondering the best method to do this. I have cleaned a lot of carpet but the Fit budget carpet is so thin and delicate I wondered if I would destroy it with a wet vac style cleaning.
Those of you that have cleaned it what lessons did you learn?

Buy plastic insert mats because the Fit carpet is like velcro to dirt and debris. I have 3D MAXpider in the front, middle and back. Love 'em. I especially like the full coverage for the middle since I usually ride with the back seats up.

I bought Husky mats precisely because my last car's carpet got pretty mucked up, despite having generic car mats.
The Fit carpeting is really thin. I would treat it like a delicate piece of lingerie. Use a spray bottle to spray water to dissolve any solidified salt, then use a wet vac, with the power way down, to gently suck up the water. Your wet vac on high might suck up all the fibers in the carpeting, sort of like the magician tablecloth trick, where he pulls the tablecloth out, leaving the place settings intact. It will be slow going, but better slow than sorry.
Get better and full coverage mats to avoid all these carpet problems.

Thanks guys. I actually do have the Honda rubber mats so it is just around the edges and it is not too bad.
I plan on getting WeatherTech pretty quick. Next winter I am also going to put down plastic carpet tape around the edges.

Like Uncle Gary, I too went with WeatherTech front and back ... the factory is local for me (well sorta, hypermiling to/from Bolingbrook is good sport). Like PressFit, I run in tall mode a lot and like that the WeatherTech rears crawl all the way up around the seat clasp; already saved my ass a few times. The price was a bit steep but if they ever pucker up I'm just a pleasant drive away from warranty satisfaction. I really wanted Husky in the front for the dead pedal protection but Husky wouldn't split the front/rear set at the time of my purchase. I understand that has since changed, so if I did it today I'd do Husky fronts and WeatherTech in the back.
