Mice

My son and I have seen evidence of mice in our cars - droppings, nesting material. A couple of days ago, I put a trap in the glove compartment and on top of the engine. The car sat for two days, and the trap under the hood caught a mouse.

Two spots that mice like are the cabin filter compartment and the space under the hood.

I see that attraction of the car to mice. Fortunately, we have a neighborhood full of cats, which keep the mouse population under control.

Mice like to chew on rubber (particularly new rubber). A friend kept his combine in my machine shed for a year or two after we moved here, and had replaced a broken hydraulic hose at the end of harvest. Came back in the Spring to run it up to his place, and the brand-new hose had been chewed in two!

Don't know if it's the same with the Fit, but when I had a mouse problem with my '00 New Beetle, I found they were getting in through drain holes in the firewall that led to the plenum area that air is pulled from for heat/air conditioning. They made a nice nest out of my cabin air filter…
