I stopped at my dealer last night and asked them about this issue. They ran my VIN number and said I'm covered for the door handle brackets. I've heard nothing from Honda and running my VIN on their website didn't show anything, either.


I'm eager to get this fixed, as rust stains on a white car=not good. It WILL happen soon enough in this climate, as it is.

i wonder if we would have eventually got letters from honda?. The only way i knew was running my VIN through honda canada (im canadian) then went to dealer and they confirmed that was the only recall. i sprayed a bit of rustproofing down into that area after they replaced them!...just to be safe, hopefully doesnt bugger up the power locks.

 

I was thinking this might be one of those "secret warranty" issues, where the repair is covered, but only if you ask for it. I've had no letter and nothing showed for my car on the Honda web site.

 

I have been in the Beaverton (Oregon) Honda dealership for 6 hours waiting for this recall to be serviced. I wonder if the technician had an hour or more lunch? I think I will ask if and when it gets done.

 

The '16 LX we looked at and drove had the treated metal of the door handle . Assembled in Japan in November of '15 .

 

I have a silver '15 EX I bought last June. Scheduled an appointment for tomorrow, and got a call from the dealership saying that my 1:00pm appointment was no good, and I'd have to bring the car in early and leave it all day. That's annoying.

But more alarming than annoying is that the guy told me they would have to remove all four doors. Anytime a car has to be taken apart like that and put back together, you're at the mercy of the competence of the dealership's service department. I had a Ford dealership pretty much ruin a Focus I used to own when it needed body work done due to severe hail damage. Almost all body panels had to be replaced, and they did a terrible job. The car wasn't the same when I got it back.

Did anyone who had the door handle bracket repair done have any problems when you got the car back?

Also, any chance anyone is in the Houston area? This is my first Honda, and I was going to get the repair done at Spring Branch. I think I might ask around to see which local dealership does the best work.

It's always worrisome when you have to let someone take your car apart and put it back together again. Especially a car that's less than a year old.

Any help would be most appreciated.

 

I have had problems with my recall. See DOOR HANDLE RECALL THREAD. Before I went in I would take pictures of panel fit on all four doors then I got it back I would

1. Compare pictures to make sure panels fit correctly.
2. Push panels to make sure they a fully seated to door.
3. Make sure sound comes out of each speaker in each door.
4. Run power windows up and down on each door to make sure it works properly.
5. Look for grease on windows after running.
6. Activate door locks and check for proper operation.
7. Look for any broke trim pieces around door area.
8. Look around door areas for any othe possible damage.

That's the list I would use after the mess they made of mine on recall.

Oh wow. Okay, thanks for the info. This is what I was worried about.

 

This is exactly why I did my own work. I bought the parts for ~$25 and took roughly seven hours to do the work. Doors do not have to come off the car (surely that was a misunderstanding); all the door panels need to be removed. This job is not trivial, since access to the rear door latch rods clips is difficult. The vapor barriers (clear plastic) are held to the door with incredibly gooey black stuff (good for the job they do, but it gets ALL over the person doing the job).

After doing the job myself, I would not trust anyone else to do a perfect job. Decent job, yes, if you're lucky.

This is another example of Honda doing a shoddy job building the car.

 

so after having the brackets replaced, now one of the rear handles is starting to come off, you can look in the door and see that one of the screws has loosened up!!!

back to the dealer for god knows what story i will be told.

 

I don't really use the rear doors much, so this reminds me to give them a workout while I'm still under warranty.
