USBs and tablets and bears, oh my
So, I tried connecting my Fire HDX via USB yesterday. The tablet knew it was plugged in, because it told me not to even bother trying to charge via a USB port. The car, however, kept saying nothing was plugged in.
I really can't find any specific information from Honda -- it's all very very vague, and mostly talks about IPods, IPhones, USB sticks, and phones.
I have a Blackberry for a phone, and even if Honda recognized it, my company won't allow music storage on it.
I have an MP3 player, but it's not an IPod. And my tablet is a new Amazon Fire HDX. I'm just not an Apple kind of woman, and that's not sour grapes.
Anyway, anyone have any clues?

Basically in USB Audio Mode for non-iPhone/iPad devices it will only play MP3/WMA/AAC files found in the device storage (not sure if location matters, but probably best to put it in a dedicated Music folder on the device storage). Not sure about about Amazon's flavor of Android, but regular Android usually displays an option for the type of USB connection to use, i.e. Media/Storage/Camera etc. which you can choose from the notification panel. You can try the bluetooth audio as well which works well with my Android phone + any music app.

I don't know if the Fits are the same but my 2012 Civic Si only accepts drives formatted in FAT32. If the Fire HDX is formatted in some other fashion it won't work. As boatnik suggested, it may be as easy as switching the USB connection. Good luck!

Could you explain that a bit more, please? Notification panel on thr Fit's display, or the Fire's?

It would be on the Fire's, but I'm not familiar with how Amazon changed the user interface compared to other Android devices. From a quick googling it might be the case that you can't actually specify the USB connection type on a Fire hdx . Just check the notification panel and see if there's a notification referring to USB connection.

I was able to connect my Samsung galaxy tab via a HDMI to mini usb and got it to display/stream net flicks off my tablet on the car display. Connected the sounds to my Bluetooth and viola! However when the car is taken out of park the function shuts off.
