Mounting Dashcam

Mounting Dashcam
The Fit has those black dots on the windshield behind the rear view mirror, so a suction cup won't stick there. Because of that, I mounted my dashcam on the far right side of the dash. It works fine and shows what's up ahead, but the video is upside down, since the camera is mounted upside down from the position it was intended to be in if stuck to the windshield.
How do you mount the camera on the windshield with those black dots? I thought of using Velcro to mount a piece of plexiglass and attaching the suction cup mount to that.

Extreme Mounting Tape, 1 in X 60 in, 1 Roll/Pack - Walmart.com
This is how my Dashcam is mounted with the suction cup on the back dots. Don't scrape them off.

Black dots on the LX???
Could the black dots on the LX be different from those on an EX??? Doubt it, but have had my dash cam mounted on top of them since Dec. 8. It hasn't moved since. Prior to install, cleaned the area with alcohol and that seemed to do the job.
Hope this helps, guys!!!

You put the tape on the suction cup and then put the dashcam on the windshield?

Decent suction cups work fine on the dots.
COMMENT: Great video and am glad you stressed the importance of investing in those trim tools. Not only good for routing wires but they make removing interior trim a breeze with no marks. Have had my G1W (Chinese knock-off) since Dec. and your right about this dash cam - it works flawlessly everytime the ignition is turned on. Day and night videos are clear enough although license plates are readable if the car is directly one car length ahead or closer. Using a 32gb micro card which is working fine. GoPro resolution is much better but this was only $28 shipped from Ebay. Couldn't say no to that!!! Here's hoping we all don't video any mishaps with our vehicles. Lets just keep an eye our for falling comets or airplanes. - rttby

I didn't have any issue mounting my dashcam on the dots. suction cup stuck well and has not fallen off. Been on there 1 month 2600 miles so far. I have a Cobra dashcam. I pressed the suction cup on hard and held it while I flipped the suction lever. I'd try that before using tape, just my two cents.

In the meantime, I got the 3M double-sided tape, and I've used it for other things. Good stuff.

Thanks for rubbin salt in the wound Rot!
Got more snow on the way this week and already over a foot and a half on the ground.
And 50 is not hold, hell that's a heat wave in my book!

thank you sir!! Sadly from what I've read other forumites ruined it for the rest of us when it pertains to rep points and likes.

Is there no straightforward way to hardwire a dash cam?
What do people do if their camera had an impact type setting that could record when the car is off? Or are there built in batteries that handle that?
My E46 M3 had a radar detector hardwired into the wiring used for a button used for a garage door opener button near the interior lights (by rear view mirror) that made a hardwire super easy and nifty. Is anything like that possible?
