Looking into 2015
Hi all.
New here and looking into a 2015 Fit. They're a bit out of my price range from what I originally set for myself when I started looking for a car and would love for the opportunity to buy a used 2015, but I unfortunately need a car in the next week and used models aren't available yet. My last vehicle was totaled in a hit and run and with a decent commute to school which is starting back up in a week, I need a vehicle.
I drove the 2015 LX 6MT yesterday and overall, I liked it. The biggest red flag was the arm rest which was noticeably low, but I'm sure there'll be some aftermarket options available for that soon.
I know there were initially some issues from these new plant in Mexico and and model. Now that this model has been out ~6 months, are newly built cars still having issues? Is there anything I should look out for, aside from going over the car for fit and finish issues?
Lastly, how do these prices look? A 6MT EX for $17,912 (claimed to be invoice), out the door for $19,686.11. Another price I got for an automatic LX is $16,837 (invoice), out the door for $18,591.11. Keep in mind I live in California and have an 8% sales tax.
How do those prices look?
Thanks!

I just found a 2015 Fit EX CVT for $19,795 out the door. Can I find better than this? I found someone got $19,175 OTD in the LA area, so I've contacted the dealers around me saying my "friend" just got this and I'd like to shop locally and save a trip to LA if possible. $19,795 is the best I've gotten so far, and considering the dealer I had been working with previously gave me $19,686 OTD for an EX 6MT, $100 more for CVT sounds good.

I'm in SoCal and just bought an EX CVT for $18,900 O.T.D. less than 2 weeks ago from Moss Bros in the Riverside county. If you are getting a 6MT EX, maybe you can get one for $18,000 O.T.D. or even less?
Moss Bros is not the honest dealer around but no other Honda dealers that I inquired could beat their O.T.D. price.
Shop around!

They seem a bit HIGH to me.

One responded:
"We appreciat your offer but there is a problem,
If the OTD price was $19,195 than the selling price must be around $17,450 wich is not possible by any dealer in the US.
MSPR : $19,180
Invoice: $18,865.61
My only advice to you is to get a sales order emailed to you from this dealership confirming the price you've been quoted before spending money and time traveling."
Another responded:
"Hi Brian,
The out the door price is based on the sales tax where the vehicle is registered. With the sales tax 8.0% and DMV for Napa it would come out to $19,592.19 out the door. I want to make sure you understand even if you go to LA and they don't do the sales tax right. DMV will bill you the correct amount. Lets make a deal!
Ask for me for the special internet Pricing!"
Another: "Brian, I can't do $19,195 but I can offer you $19,795 out the door and I do have a good selection of Honda Fit EX models availbale in stock now."
Another: "Thank you for the reply I can sell a 2015 Honda Fit EX CVT for $18387 plus tax and lic/reg"
Another: "Thank you for the opportunity to earn your business, Currently there are not any incentives out for the 2015 Honda fit, our out the door price for the 2015 Honda Fit EX is $20,275.78 ( The taxes are based on Solano County, Fairfield , 94533)"
So, that's where I am at the moment. Granted, this was all online just to see what kind of starting points I could find. Being the SF Bay Area, there is a lot of inventory within 50 miles of me so hopefully I can find something. I've never bought a new car though so we'll see what I can wrangle up.

I was quite impressed that I paid $18,900 OTD that is LESS than the factory window sticker price on a car that is quite popular and has received many good reviews. And I did everything in one day, price researching, emailing, calling, dealer visiting (3 different counties!), negotiating/haggling, buying & bringing a brand new car home (it was 10:30 pm when I got home!).

2015 Honda Fit LX 6MT $16,988
2015 Honda Fit LX CVT $17,776
2015 Honda Fit EX 6MT $18,853

So, you shopping for either CVT or 6MT?
If you would be driving in the hilly SF Bay area daily, you'd better get the CVT. You will burn up that poor clutch quite quickly there!
Or if you would be doing a long distance trip, get the CVT.
The engine with 6MT revs at 3200-3400 when cruising at 65-70 mph where as the engine with CVT leisurely spins at 22-2300 rpm. Among other things, think about the EXTRA wear and tear on the 6MT engine over the lifetime of the car because it has to do extra spinning when cruising at hwy.
One tip on shopping for a new car.
Try to deal with dealer on the last weekend or last day of a month. Some dealers will give you extra discount just to meet their goal or quota or whatever which gets them a hefty bonus or incentive by meeting that number. So, they may not make much profit from your sales, but they make up with the quota bonus. I bought mine on 12/31!

I've been leaning more towards a 6MT, but my girlfriend wants an auto. So now I'm trying to decide what version of what trim to keep us both happy and without spending top dollar.
I live in Napa but will (hopefully) be commuting to UC Berkeley, which isn't TOO bad but not great.
Unfortunately I need a car this weekend. My last car was totaled in a hit and run and I have school in SF starting again next week. Beginning of the month and beginning of the year, it's probably a terrible time to try and buy a vehicle. One dealer even mentioned there were currently no incentives on the Fit right now, which is probably why they wouldn't budge down like your dealer would.
Really wish I could wait 6 months and get one used. Ugh.
