Still Looking for Ideas

I have two switches in the blanks to the left of the steering wheel. One turns on the colored LEDs under dash and seats, and the other turns on power to the two 12v outlets I added. I have a push-button wired and ready to go for the third blank, but I don't have a use for it. I could also put an ON/OFF toggle switch in there.

At your suggestion, I tried to run wires to the garage door remote, but soldering the wires to it proved to be an impossible challenge. I even sent the remote to a professional solderer who volunteered to do it. No good. I've ruined two remotes that way, so I'm looking for other ideas.

A professional solderer? Not familar with the term. Lol. Take pictures of the remote, its likely SMD components, just need the right SMD tools to rework the switch contacts and run to the blank switch.

Yes, not to be confused with a professional soldier.

I explained my soldering problem on another forum, and a guy from Kansas who solders for a living offered to do it for me. It looked beautiful, but just like my soldering, sometimes the remote worked, but most of the time it didn't.

So, I have a switch in search of something to control.

Where did you keep the remote at? Under the dash? Might work well if it's in the glovebox away from the electronics. The radio transmitter on the remotes are usually pretty weak.

And the metal frame of the car acts like a huge Faraday cage blocking the signal. Leave the unit mounted under the dash, but remote locate the antenna above the dash and it should fix your issue no problem!

Since the remote never work reliably, I never got it into the car. I was just trying to get it to work each time I pushed the button, mainly while I was standing in front of the garage. It just wasn't a good solder connection. I did try the remote while holding it under the dash before I started doing any work on it. It opened the door just fine.
