Should I get the LX or EX
Hello,
I have been reading this forum for the past 3 months about the new Honda Fit 2015.
I read all the quality issues and everyones posts and videos about this car.
But I am having difficulty deciding which model to get LX vs EX.
I am trying to be budget conscious. Originally, I wanted the LX bc it basically has what I need. The only 2 items i would prefer on the LX is the alloy wheels and the floor mats.
Now , I wondering is it worth it to just go for the EX.
I am not sure if I would use the other items in the EX like.
Moon Roof, Paddle Shifters, Passenger Side Camera, Touchscreen audio display.
Did anyone come to this crossroad..how did your decision workout.
Just looking for opinions.

REply: In my case, cause I'm cheap, I went LX. Also wanted something different in terms of alloys so I knew I was gonna spend for new wheels whether LX or EX.
EX though has a lot going for it if the wheels are acceptable. The added features for the price gives you much more in standard equipment. The 7" screen, lane change mirror, sunroof, push button start - (the one thing I lust for), foglights...... etc.....all good stuff.
So now it depends on your personnal budget. You make the decision and post pics of what you decide on!!!! Happy shopping!!! - rttby

I went with the top trim of EX-L with Navi. Figured if I am going to keep the car several years might as well get top of the line.
I've already had envy with my old 2009 CRX LX when it didn't have exterior temp sensor. I had it in my Civic 2006 and missed it. Then I started looking around for ways to add it and turns out needs wiring harness and other pieces to make it work.
So in the end I told myself get the highest trim I can afford and be happy.

I prefer the LX because I think a lot of the other stuff like moon roof, side camera, alloys are just a waist for what you get charged. Buy an LX and then get the extras from a place like HandA and save a lot of money. I did this with my Element EX and was glad I did.

Cheap!!!!
I bought the LX because I was impressed (amazed !!) with what came STANDARD with the LX trim level. I do wish I had fog lamps and a moon roof but am pleased as pie without them.
You shouldn't have to think about it too hard, but now that you have asked this FF Forum you have placed yourself in a bit of a quandary. Pretty much everyone is happy with their purchase and will suggest you replicate their purchase/decision. Keep reading the threads/posts ... something will strike a chord with you.
Figure out what you can live with and what you can live without ..... if you can afford all the options GET THEM!
You only live once .... I suggest you buy all the blues albums you can.

I was set on buying a yellow LX, knowing I'd always regret not having the factory fog lights and alloys, and the LaneWatch camera for my wife. However, she wanted the purple and that's only available in the EX, so that's what we got.
As it turns out, I use most of the EX features every day and would now miss them. There's a lot of bang for the buck in the EX price premium.
I became addicted to the SmartKey entry and push-button start within a couple days.
I drive with the windows up and pop the rear of the moon roof up. Quieter and more fuel efficient than using the side windows.
I listen to classical music and the tweeters up on the dash provide a much better stereo image than just speakers down in the doors. And we use both the USB ports.
I not only use the LaneWatch a lot myself, but I love the dynamic lines on the backup camera and the ease of use of the larger, touch screen display.
Let me add that this CVT transmission provides the smoothest powertrain of any car I've ever owned. The engine speed at cruise is only 2/3 of that of the manual and much quieter and more relaxed..
If you can afford it, buy the EX CVT.

I haven't bought a Fit yet (shopping for the price I want). But I have decided on the EX CVT. Why?
I am 6'6" and I can sit in the Fit with the moonroof and not have headroom issues (I tend to spike my hair too). This is very rare for me. Generally cars with moonroofs that are big enough are...not cheap. The Fit is definitely a bargin when compared to any other car with a moonroof I've found where my spikey hair isn't touching the roof.
I like fog lights.
The alloy wheels definitely look better to me.
2 USB ports vs 1 is a definite perk IMO. However, I've found needing a second port only on long drives with my family. And I am not sure if we'll ever take a Fit on long drives as our Rogue is really nice for cross country trips we've made. Not sure why I'd change that.
Lane watch? Right now I'd say I would care but I'd bet I'd get use to it and miss it if it were gone.

LX OR EX thats the question
I really thought I wanted an LX because I wanted the cheapest transportation I could get. I bought my stripped 1995 Ford Escort 5 speed in 1995 for $9999 on sale and drove for 20 years and 350,00 miles until it died. Could not find a manual LX so I looked at the EX. There are so many more goodies on the EX I got that one and now I am glad I did. I do believe it is worth the extra $1800.

I went LX because I plan on having the car a long time, here is my thinking:
Stereo technology changes rapidly and 5 years from now I will probably want to install and aftermarket stereo and speakers, which will be easier with the LX system.
I found the lanewatch to be distracting and would have turned it off anyhow.
I plan on having winter wheels and summer wheels, so the rims made no difference as I will be buying another set regardless.
Fog lights/eco mode/sun roof make no difference to me.
The only things I miss are:
Easy entry (but also glad that I will never have to worry about fixing it should it stop working)
Floor mats (meh)

But considering originally you wanted only floor mats and alloy wheels, I think you should price out those two things and check if they are worth the extra EX cost. Those two items should be easy to add later also, unlike adding a moonroof. Mentioning other benefits to justify the additional cost is just trying to defend the EX premium.
Also, just to standout you could get some exotic/different alloy wheels for your LX (not the ones seen on EX).

The question is, are the bells and whistles worth the extra money and potential for failure? For me they are not, for others they might be.
Many of the problems people are having with new Fits revolve around the touchscreen audio system and the lanewatch camera. If you don't have these there is no chance of a problem. Kettering's Law. Same thing with moonroofs. If you really want the functionality great, but many of us would rather have more headroom and shade. Push-button start is kewl, but again we've heard of people having issues with it on this forum and haven't heard of any issues with those Olde Fashioned keys.
The other additions are not very consequential. Paddle shifters won't get used very often by most drivers and are really just there for Walter Mitty F1 drivers to pretend that they have a dual-clutch manumatic. If you are truly a sporty driver you will get the stick. Fog lights just make a bright spot on the road ahead and annoy other drivers. Alloy wheels are more theft-prone, have a slightly harsher ride, and increase tire replacement costs. I don't really see a quality difference in the upholstery fabric. None of these make me want to pay thousands more for a car that is excellent at the lower trim level.

I was going to go with the DX, lower model because I'm a student and we all know what student budgets are like.
Then I test drove the LX and signed the paperwork the following day.
Personally I can live without the options that come the EX, and I am happy with the LX features.
It's all personal preference.

I really couldn't care less about cameras, touch screens, and gadgets, but I ended up going with the EX just because I hate hubcaps and plastic inserts in place of fog lights, and I love having a sunroof.

Secretly, I suspect the real reason we went with the EX, was the fact I also hate hubcaps. I have seen many of them go rolling past me on the road. I needed to replace one on our old Honda 2008 Honda Fit, just so I could sell the car. NEVER AGAIN!

I chose the LX because it was lighter than the ex. I plan on auto crossing it so I don't mind the steel wheels. I'm kind of a wheel whore and don't mind owning a couple sets of wheels. I also have another car so this will add to my fun ness. I also was turned away by the ex due to its alloys always getting stolen.
