Leaving car running without "smart entry remote" being near it
I am somewhat confused by this paragraph on page 119 of the Owner's Manual and what exactly happens when the smart entry remote is far away from a running car.
It says that you can't change the ENGINE START/STOP button mode or restart the engine.
So if the engine was running with the AC on (it is Texas) and the wife in the car will it still be running when I go into the grocery store with the smart entry remote for 20-30 minutes?
I have various loyalty cards on the key chain on the smart entry remote which is the reason I wanted to take the remote with me into the store.
If the smart entry remote is taken out of the vehicle after the engine has been started, you can no longer change the ENGINE START/STOP button mode or restart the engine. Always make sure if the remote is in your vehicle when you operate the ENGINE START/STOP button.

Good to know.
Are there any other things we need to be concerned with by having the remote far away from a running car?
Such as the wife opening the windows and/or opening a door.
My fear was that a alarm would go off on her when I was in the store for some time with the remote.

In my 370z with keyless entry I have never had any of those problems and I can leave it running indefinitely. Don't have my Fit yet but from reading the manual it sounds exactly the same. Basically the passage you are referring to is saying that if you take the key outside the range of the vehicle while it's running, you won't be able to restart the car if it is turned off. Shouldn't be any issues with the windows or doors if you remove the key from the area.

I would always just leave the keys with the car if you're leaving someone in the car.
What if wife wants to move car to the shade or accidentally turns off the car and so can't restart? What if she wants to get out and stretch her legs but can't leave car unattended or unlocked and can't get back in? What if she wants to run in and go to the bathroom, or go across the street to get a coffee?
Even if it doesn't happen, the anticipation of the need is anxiety in itself. Unhappy wife, unhappy life.
Is the only reason you're testing this system just to have the minor benefit of the loyalty card on your keychain to take in with you? Or am I reading between the lines and there control issues also where you don't want to leave the keys with your wife?
The cost/benefit of all this anxiety just so you have the loyalty card with you is out of whack to me.
I would instead attack the problem directly. You don't really care about the key, what you are saying is you care about the loyalty program. So attack the loyalty program. see if you could key in a phone number for your loyalty program(most do!) or tie it to your credit card or something.

Whenever you leave the car with the engine turned on, it stays on even if you have the keys with you. One thing I noticed is whenever you close your doors, the car will beep, just reminding you that you have the key. I usually just start the car and go out and clean a bit and keep the door open so I don't hear the annoying beep.

Yeah it's kind of puzzling to me for someone to stay in the car when someone's going shopping that long. Special needs, I guess? Maybe more time on a mobile game or something? Lol.
