Other cars have problems too!
Yesterday, I was reading news stories about the millions of recent GM and Ford recall's, thinking about how lucky we have been in my family. Then, I went to my mailbox today and found TWO letters from Honda. My heart sank, thinking the bumper issue finally caught up with us. It turned out one was a "recall" for my 2007 Honda Odyssey, and the other a "Product Advisory" for our old 2008 Honda Fit.
It made me realize all car manufactures have issues at some time or another, and the most important thing is how the company deals with the problems.
The 2007 Odyssey was built in America, and the 2008 was built in Japan. Here's hoping the 2015 Honda Fit, built in Mexico, will beat both of them!

Yup, I get these recall notices in the mail from time to time for my older sold vehicles from Honda and Toyota. All manufactures have recalls through out the years/decades. As long as they are not serious ones like GM. Of course I am thinking of a Buick Encore next year

My 15 Fit has had none of the mentioned issues and it was one of the first 333 cars produced. I would much rather deal with cosmetic flaws, inconsistencies and recalls than the reoccurring mechanical issues I dealt with on my GTI.
This is my first time owning a Honda and so far I could not be happier. My GTI became a nightmare that I would never wake up from.

Yep. Most of the time, when Honda has a problem, they fix it. When GM has a problem, they calculate the cost of suits from the families of the dead. If the suits cost less than the repair, they say "Sue away"

Yup, I learned that lesson the hard way with my 370z - steering lock failure that leaves you stranded, whiny ECU, hatch release spring problems, clutch issues...and that's technically supposed to be a premium car. I certainly wasn't expecting to deal with those issues.

That's funny SR45. The Encore was on my shortlist when I was thinking about the Fit. Since it was almost $10K more and didn't have the same safety rating, it fell off that list. But there is something about them I really like.

That's nothing new. The first time it really made the news was in the '70s, with Ford Pinto gas tank fires.

You could design a car to protect all occupants up to a speed of 100MPH, but such cars would be huge, expensive, and would get poor mileage. They wouldn't sell, so manufacturers set the bar lower, compromising safety for utility and cost. We could call them callous, but if you think about it everyone makes similar decisions every day.
