Hello, I'm shopping for a new car and thinking about buying a 2015 Honda Fit LX. Do you have any complaints about this car? Does it have any known mechanical issues? Is the ride smooth or bumpy?

Also, its original tire size is 185/60-15, will I be able to use my 185/65-15 winter tires on this car?

its' not recommended to run 65 profile tire
you may run into fender clearance problems.
i say stick with 185/60-15 which is OEM size

it's a good car.. if it fits your requirement
the car is a bit floaty it's brand new car not even out 6 months so you won't see any mechanic issues for now

yep, no problem. it is a little taller then stock, and allows more clearance and slightly taller gearing, which will aid in winter traction.

i have the exact same size on my 15' fit for winter use.

 

Are you looking for the CVT or 6-speed? Either way, I would say "go for it". Not sure what you would select for an alternative anyway.

 

I don't care if it's floaty, but is the ride smooth? This car is for my mother. My 2002 Civic is pretty bumpy so I was wondering if Fit has the same problem.

As far as tires go, I really would like to use my winter tires. So is there any way I can still use 185/65-15?

Your winter tires should be fine, we've got wheel gap for days....

 

My wife thinks the Fit rides rougher than our F350, but I think it's about the same, the difference being the truck seats have more cushioning and it rides on a 158" wheelbase. Neither are what I'd call smooth and you aren't in Acura territory, for sure.

 

The 65 series tire is only a centimeter bigger in radius than a 60 series. You should have no problems. I tend to run slightly larger than stock diameters on my cars and have never had an issue.

Now, if you happen to run chains there might be an issue!

 

We can certainly tell a difference between my wife's Mazda CX-5 and my daughters 2015 Fit, when crossing our cattle gates. The 4-wheel independent suspension on the Mazda is why.

Having said that, even with the Fit's current Torsion-Beam Rear Suspension, I think the 2015 rides better over bumps than our old 2008 Fit did.

 

I find the ride very smooth. In comingfrom a gti and I find the Fits ride smoother, although you feel bumps more. Cruising on a smooth road is really nice though.

Before you get it make sure you can bear listening to the direct injection noise and also make sure you can get used to the flimsy and plastic feel of the stick.

 

What direct injection noise? Maybe it's because light-footing the CVT keeps revs down… to me, it's as smooth as a hybrid… maybe it's because I listen to classical music at a low volume… maybe it's because I ride with the windows up and the sunroof cracked… I barely hear any engine noise in our new Fit… but then I've driven a 7.3 liter PowerStroke Diesel for 12 years.

 

We will be getting automatic only. But I will pay attention to the noise. We might buy Mazda 3 instead though.

I visit this site to discuss and learn about my wife's Mazda CX-5......

 

Only a test drive will answer your questions. I think the ride is firm enough to be sporty but soft enough for longer rides. My only beef is I'm not able to completely rest my foot on the floor without pressing on the gas pedal with the more upright leg position and my front shin muscle got a little sore the first week or two.

The LX also is said to be slightly noisier than the upper trims but I don't mind the noise on my LX.

I also considered a Mazda 3 earlier but would've been a few more grand for the trim I wanted with less rear passenger/storage room, with a huuuuge front end. Pretty sure my insurance would be higher with the 3 as well. If you value fun-to-drive a lot, though, the 3 is worth a look.

I have had 3 Fits, and the '15 is by far the best. In fact, the best car I have owned...ever. 3 months and no problems or complaints from myself or any riders, front or back. They all like it. Comfortable city and highway.
