Ridiculously hot map lights?
Has anyone noticed this? I turned my map lights on for ~5 minutes earlier, and by the time I turned them off, they had gotten so hot that I couldn't touch it for more than a second or two before my finger felt like it would burn.

I'm referring to the set of 2 overhead lights in the front of the car, by the sunroof button. I know that they're incandescent bulbs and that incandescents get hot, but I didn't expect them to get so hot that they made the plastic cover searingly hot to the touch. I've had covers in other cars get hot, but not THAT hot.
I've only had the car 2 days, so I haven't had a chance to swap anything out yet (nor am I confident that I'll be able to do it on my own anyway), but I've read the the LEDs are pretty intense for a bulb up front, where one's lighting needs are generally less than in the cargo area. Not sure I want to make that swap just yet, but thanks.

I have maplights in my GE Fit and have even forgotten to turn them off & left on overnight (more than once)- still the oem bulbs and they do not get unreasonably hot-- something is not right, you should not have to replace the bulbs with led

One of my pet peeves is ANY electrical device that can be easily left on all night long --- especially if the car does not beep and warn you as you walk away with your mind on other things. I feel much better knowing that when the key is in my pocket, nothing but the clock is running. Of course, with these new cars, there are probably at least four different computers busily at work all night long figuring out the day's milage, how much life is left in the oil, how fat a spark the engine will need tomorrow morning, and when to let you know that: Yes! ---that piece of plywood you ran over this afternoon DID have a nail sticking up through it and you're in for a very flat tire.
