Manual Transmission GK question:

if you have a manual transmission in your 15' Fit, two questions:

How many miles do you have on it? Did you have any clutch problems?

Oh no, Rodney! My heart broke seeing this. I saw in another post that you had a dead fit in the driveway. It's a clutch failure?!

I have 1,300 miles on the ODO and no problems to speak of.

In mine, the only point of concern is slightly inconsistent power between 2,000 and 2,500rpm in 2nd gear. Other drivers have reported similar happenings, so I don't worry about it, but it is there. It MAY have something to do with some sort of eco setting in the software or something. It seems more pronounced with the AC running. IDK. That thread is still up so hoping more people will comment.

I also SWEAR I hear a bit of a squeak if I'm letting the clutch out from a slow roll in 1st gear. Typically happens when approaching the gate in my neighborhood; I'll clutch in from second, slow to crawl while the gate opens, put in in first, and when I let the clutch out, sometimes I hear a brief squeak right when it starts to catch. Might be my imagination, but I've heard it two or three times.

I love the manual and think it is a lot of fun to drive, but I know the clutch WILL need replacing at some point and it kind of scares the beejeezus out of me. Hoping it won't be for many years/miles though. Also hoping that when it happens, I will have enjoyed driving the M/T so much that I won't mind.

However, if it happens before 10k...20k...even 50k, I'd be pretty upset. The car I learned stick on had 85k on the original clutch and I was it's 4th learner...

If it happened to you with a few hundred on the dash, man... I don't know where I'd raise hell first.

I have 2400 miles on it so far no issues, we will see. Good luck man. That sucks.

Edit: can clutches be adjusted improperly leading to early failure? What leads to early clutch failure other than driver technique?

I had read about GE's that had issues with the master/slave cylinders that would cause the clutch to never fully engage and wear out as if it were being ridden. One woman smoked a clutch in less than 2k miles.

The worst part was that Honda would just claim poor driving technique and not cover it under warranty. Only when people insisted that the service managers dig deeper did they discover the bad cylinders and cover the repair.

I didn't QUITE understand what that meant when I first read it and only kind of understand it now. I couldn't tel you what a master or slave cylinder are, but the problem makes sense overall: clutch didn't engage fully and died. Search all the forums on here for early clutch failures. The stories are all here.

The truth is out there.

Same as these guys, no clutch issues, but a weird engine hesitation at low RPMs in 2nd gear every now and then.

clutch gave up in under 36 hours of ownership. on the phone between local dealer, selling dealer and corporate.

i am starting to regret my decision to buy this car. had hondas for 25 years, and this is beyond frustrating.

This might explain the Clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder better. pressure in on one = pressure out on the other. hence if one isnt adjusted right as far as the actual piston position goes, you get less travel. so the master is on the clutch pedal side, and the slave is on the transmission side

There's got to be a reason why Rodney's clutch went out, I doubt it's a fault of the design. Unfortunately Rodney is stuck with a defective clutch that blew immediately, but I'm sure once it's replaced and the problem is diagnosed he will be zipping around again. Good luck man!

Following with eyes wide 0_0

Time and mileage will tell how durable these clutches are overall, but this is clearly a serious defect with your car. I mean shoot, 36 hours?! I understand that faults like this happen in any mass produced machine, but I think in this instance, when it's clear that there is an underlying problem, the manufacturer should fix it or replace the vehicle. If Honda sticks you for even one penny on a bill then I don't think they deserve their great reputation.

rodney, my sincerest condolences... this sucks to even read about happening. I hope Honda does right by you and fixes whatever needs fixing. It IS a great little car and I hope this (major) inconvenience doesn't put a damper on your ownership. Best of luck and Jedi patience man.

P.S. I got a PM from a Johnathan @HondaCustSrvc. It was right after posting in this thread. Does anybody know if this is legit, or is it a phishing scam?

At least it's a clear warranty issue. You really don't want to know how much it costs to fix a clutch if you're the one paying for it! It isn't the "$25 part and two hours of labor" job it used to be in the olde dayes.

dont want to comment too much until the decision of whether the car is repaired or not, but this is a massive fustercluck that is very disheartening. i cannot believe what is going on. car is not in my possession right now, so we will see what happens.

pretty solid but 2015 is a redo year

I've had 20 Hondas from the coupe in the 70's to my last five which are all
fits. I usually let them get 100k to 132k before I trade them in or sell em.
the 2011 changes I didn't like. Prefer the steel wheels of the 09. The always on braking BS took control when I slid on ice and did a triple. It took over the braking and I was helpless, that's why i went back to the 09. Don't like that being on all the time. For your problem it sounds like a
major bug which could be caused by many factors but I too hope that Honda admits it soon , instead of doing as GM did people. Needless to say,
you have a major headache on your hands. Perhaps you should go back to a low mileage older one until they act. Remember most states have lemon
laws now. so many chances and times to fix it and then they have to take it back. Good Luck.

3rd dealer has had the car week and a half now. they have ordered and are replacing a slew of parts.

i only had the fit for 36 hours, so i kind of forgot what it looks like...
